  • What's the dark arts LMNH coffee like ? Recommended?

  • Looking for recommendation's for a grinder, not one that's going to break the bank.

  • Hand: Porlex Mini
    Electric: Iberital MC2

  • Ta, will check'em out

Just purchased the Porlex Mini just what I was after, the fact it fits inside the aeropress even better.

  • They, DA have taken a big step on recently, there stuff is very good.

  • Another shipment from the wonderful mr @StevePeel collected from the post office last night.

4 boxes of the delicious Hermosa Premium. should keep me going for a couple of weeks.

  • I think next year we will drop our HasBean secret stash subscription and just use @StevePeel (and if desperate I can drive or ride over to Rave in Cirencester).

All the yellow bourbon beans have been fantastic, and extract really well. The Sumatran is our favourite so far, though Ethiopian and Hermosa Costa Rican also arrived yesterday.

Service is amazingly prompt and Steve suggests extraction ratios and timings which is really helpful.

    Will continue to buy again.

  • The one problem is the coffee is so damn good out consumption has escalated somewhat.

  • Sorry if it's been mentioned mulitple times before, but can anybody recommend a good course in London for Barista skills? I know there's a few about, like Prufrock, and specialist schools. Wondered if anybody has first hand experience? Or would people suggest learning on the job, part-time?

  • Best bet is to try to get some part-time work I'd say. It'll take more than a day or two to become consistent and after leaving a course you'll have no one to walk you through anything you might be doing wrong.

Then again, getting a part-time job in a bad coffee shop, you'll still have no one to walk you through anything you might be doing wrong...

Never tried any of those courses myself though, so can't comment on how good they are.

  • Never tried any of those courses myself though

    maybe we could have a whip-round. :D

  • bwahahaha

  • Courses are great, i teach some. But nothing beats on the job training.

Making coffee is actually very easy mechanically. The workflow, pace and sensory side take a lot more time to nail down. An open minded place should look past a lack of experience and hire the right person. After that, you can learn most of what you need to know through books and on the web.

Maybe we should put together a lfgss training day.....

  • the new gaggia classics are shit apparently

Cripes, just read the reviews. Looks awful.

Gotta fix mine. Need the time to do it!

  • Do one in the West Country and I'll come along.

  • Did @mrs_socks do a Prufrock course?

  • Let's organise one. Evenings are best for me.

  • Would be up for this too.

  • Where?

    @danb

Could do it at mine - compak k10 grinder and orchestrale nota

I could then do my smoked mocha beef short ribs in case we haven't had enough coffee related things.

  • I do kinda have a shop, with like brewing equipment and stuff.......

  • Date wise, how is a Sunday during sept/oct for you? @danb @dancing james

  • Thanks for the replies. I'd be really keen to do a session. And if it went well, like you said, develop through some on the job experience in a coffeeshop somewhere.

  • I have reasonable availability until last two weekends of September then available again 22 October
