HC is very inclusive, everyone will be cheering you along for being a good sport. Give it a go!

A chap did one of the first Rollapaluza urban hill climbs with his dog 🐶 in his handlebar basket. He got the biggest cheer of the night.
It is very inclusive, you'll get a lot of support just for giving it a go.

Arguably the most fun type of hill climb is when you're not fit enough and on an inappropriate bike.
Go for it

Cheers for the insights all. I may just give it a go. I'm genuinely not arsed where I come (if it's not dead last I'll be amazed) I just didn't want a load of serious riders thinking I'm not taking it seriously.
-
• #257
I mean, I'm not taking it really seriously, but I'm not taking the piss.
-
• #258
As long as you have the appropriate amount of pain showing on your face when you reach the top that's all that matters. As other have said its very inclusive and I'm sure there will be cow bells and cheers for anyone that competes

Yeah, HCs tend to be a mix of specialist hillclimbers and riders for whom it is something of an end of season novelty event, so they tend to be the most inclusive and accessible of all TTs.
It is also helped by the ease of spectating as they (typically) are so short. -

I've been dead last, or close enough, in all the open hill climbs I've done. Nobody told me I shouldn't be there. If there are any specialists on the start sheet, you probably won't be slowest if you get up in twice the winner's time.

I tried to enter but am not a member of any cycling club, so can't do it. Oh well, might turn out to watch.

Ah, nice. How do I join?
Edit: Sorry, I decided to actually employ some googling skills and am sorted.

• #264
Shit, now I actually have to do this.

@Tonts, I've only done Swains Lane (Urban Hill Climb), I'll be at my usual spot at the cemetery (halfway) with the big ding-dong cowbell shouting your (everyone's) name.. it's a great day and experience, especially if you get the finger count down on the start gate and a roar from the crowd near the finish at the top. 30th Sept this year for UHC

Just entered Catford to make up for not being able to do the Urban Hill Climb.
First organised hill climb - check

💪🏻
I prefer Catford to Bec, but you should do both for the full effect!
-
• #268
Yeah Catford > Bec. Hard to motivate yourself for two balls out efforts on the same day.
-
• #269
When is Catford btw? Their site is down and I can't utfs effectively :/

8th of October

• #271
cheers!
-
• #272
I am tempted to do both - they're only a few miles apart right?
-
• #273
It's definitely rideable between the two.
-
• #274
Yep. I did both last year and plenty of people ride between them (I drove)
-
• #275
I've done both the last three years. Can't change now, my times wouldn't be comparable...
You'll have lots of fun, and that's the whole point. If you've never done one before it's quite exciting / nervous making, feels like being part of something a bit official with timekeepers and stuff. Do it!
Loose the anchors though, anything would be better than Marathons.
