I use a travel agent on my nature boy v brakes and they work well. I've been using the ones they had on planetx with the barrel adjuster where the cable outer joins the v brake pipe (well described I know)
Unfortunately, I can't find them now, so not much help.

I ran Sram s500 levers with cx9s, felt positive, although it was on commuter/road bike so could set pads pretty close to the rim.
Maybe this is the bike gods telling you to run cantis and let me have the cx8.4s.
