This is where I read it. Comments surprisingly far more balance than the article. Loons obviously but some people being sensible.

Not the best example, but this cyclist for example, could have steered well clear of the ped but chose a very close line.
I'm guessing this accident was similar to the Alliston case.

Pretty much top of the search engine when searching tabloid vs broadsheet target audience.

From the introduction this could be a good refresher for anyone who had forgotten just who the audience of tabloid journalism is:

What will count most strongly against him is NOT being a drug addict in a car....
A woman who seriously injured a teenager when she crashed into a bus stop while on a cocktail of drugs, has been given a suspended sentence.
Julie Wilson, 37, had previously pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
Truro Crown Court heard she had not slept for five days before the crash.
She had taken cocaine, heroin, methadone, morphine and codeine.
Hospital tests showed the level of cocaine in her system was so high it went above the recognised scale. -

It often happens that if a pedestrian notices you as they wander across the road staring into their smartphone they stop dead. It's a roll of the dice whether they do notice you or not so it's impossible to predict where they are going to be when you pass them - hence always a good idea to slow right down. At 18 years old, I guess CA hadn't learned this lesson. You can't navigate obstacles in traffic based on the way you think they should behave.

Those comments. Wow.
You are a very patient man Phil.

The widower wants to introduce an offence of 'causing death by dangerous cycling'. I think Andrea Leadsom tried this a few years ago in a private members' bill - does anyone know what happened to that? It seems to me he would make more of a difference if he campaigned to get the current law on front brakes enforced.

Just lost 20 minutes doing that. I presume you are the Phil giving the logical answers!

I'd be less so if there was the usual "I'll run them over if I see them". Luckily they all just seem stupid rather than violent. I know I'm fighting a losing battle but I can't help getting involved.
-
• #47872
That's the one haha
-
• #47873
Most of the arguments are utterly stupid; keep fighting haha!

where is this battle of Helmets Deep taking place?
-
• #47875
hahahaha. Battle of Helmets Deep!! it's a couple of pages back, metro link about the "evidence"...
I've only seen close passes from bikes that seemed to be purely lack of spacial awareness rather than 'punishment'. Obvs seen plenty of punishment passes from cars but I think that's all fine now, post fixie-gate.
