@umop3pisdn Did you want some brake pads off me?
-

Actually, to answer my own question it looks like that banjo fitting is crimped, so no money saving hoses from other manufacturers.

Yes please. When and where are you about? PM me.

Just purchased something with disc brakes and have absolutely no idea what I am doing...
At the moment I just want to get the brake off the bike so I can shift the frame (that I have bought for the group). XTR M988 lever/M985 caliper, internally routed.
I figure I need to drain all the mineral oil from the system so I can disconnect the hose at one end to bring back through the frame? Any help/pointer to good tutorial appreciated. Thx

You'll have a hollow bolt at the lever end that's crushing the olive and at the caliper you'll have a crimped-on banjo.
The hollow bolt won't fit through your internal routing, so you'll need to cut the hose to get it off, about 0.5 inch from the end should clear the barb without losing too much hose. If you keep the hose vaguely vertical when pulling it out through the frame (forks up) you shouldn't lose much fluid and should be able to just fit a fresh barb and olive and top-up the fluid via the lever.
Don't cut off the Banjo end, I've never seen Shimano Banjos sold separately, only already fitted onto hose.

Not interchangeable and beware that clearance in the rear is pretty tight with post mount on a flat adapter. I just tried with an Isen frame and a post mount spyre. No joy.

Hmm, interesting. Worst case I'll have to fork out for a new caliper I guess.

Here you go. https://www.merlincycles.com/trp-disc-brake-adaptor-89957.html
I've just fitted a PM caliper to a flat mount frame using one of the above (well, actually it was Juin Tech one, but same thing https://www.edgesportsuk.com/store/juin-tech/juin-tech-flat-mount-to-post-mount-adapter-rear-160mm.html)

Clearance might be tight if you have a small frame, didn't have any issues on mine (61cm Cannondale).

• #4037
Ah balls - too late as I've ordered the other but cheers anyway!

Same thing innit. Think Merlin charge for delivery anyhow.

That makes me feel better

Glad it was worth my time!

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with Shimano R785 disc brakes, went for a ride last weekend with a mate and he had a pretty catastrophic failure with his rear, fluid seems to be leaking out of the calliper.
-
• #4042
As mentioned elsewhere mine have done TCR4, TransAm and TCR5 with no problems.
Wait, mine are the flat mount calipers. I have R785 levers. Different.

I've had this with the front. Was terrifying. Apparently some of the calipers came out of the factory without O-rings installed, and as a result can blow out under pressure (in my case hitting a pothole).
The shop should absolutely take this back and swap out the caliper (probably both calipers tbh). In the event he doesn't have recourse to the seller, a good LBS should be able to fix (took mine to Brixton).

Thanks guys, took it to a store today and they're gonna replace them, seems it was on early generations and they'd had a few to send back.

• #4045
You'd think Shimano would make more of an effort to at least warn people, even if it doesn't warrant a product recall.

There's some with broken pistons:

The original story is two years old, yet the comments (also reporting problems) are only between eight and two months old...
-
• #4048
They are on a 2016 synapse, the store I took it too had a couple of other bikes in with the same problem and they knew right away like it was something they come across a fair few times. @hippy Also really surprised there wasn't a recall or a letter sent out warning folk, my mate wiped out pretty hard.

Installed my first set of shimano mtb hydraulics. Need to shorten hoses but haven't got barbs & olives. Do I need to get them or can the old ones be reused?
-
• #4050
Just get new ones. They cost next to nothing and you wont risk your brakes failing
Hope 5mm hose compatible with TRP brakes? Seems a far cheaper option than the hose kit TRP offer, given I'll need a bleed kit which will include duplicates of all the small bits.
