From snaps photo services I get a total of 72 separate images on a CD for my £4.15

Previously they'd (filmdev) just send 2 half frames together like they were scanning normal 35mm so I'd end up having to edit them to get single images. Though the images I got through yesterday from them, they had done that all for me so ended up with 48 half frame images not the usual 24 I'd then edit

Thanks all.
@mi7rennie Got my eye on something (if the seller ever responds to me..), but will keep your camera in mind if it falls through.

Do film dev do a discount for bulk processing, need 30 rolls done next month?!

For those of you shooting half-frame, how do scans come back from developers (filmdev in particular) ? Do you get a scan of the full 35mm frame (ie two pics), or do they scan each half frame separately ?
Full frame ime.
Also, on a camera limited to 200 ISO, is there any benefit to shooting 400 ISO film and pulling to 200 in low light conditions ?
Considering taking the plunge into half-frame but the camera is limited to 200 ISO max.
There is nothing to gain from pulling c41 one stop.
Take note of the cameras lowest shutterspeed perhaps? If it is an old auto camera and in low light that's most likely what it will be firing at. That speed is critical in how you expose the film and steady the camera.

Thanks :)
All validation appreciated, however late! Also reminds me to maybe put a few more up from the other rolls. -

alright, what about infrared filters, which one are you using?
just got a book from the library, trying to figure out some basics -

also, does anybody here scan their negs themselves? if so, how?

• #14488
I've got a Nikon Coolscan IV I use for scanning negs, bit of a pain to set it up with Windows 8 (as is pretty much everything to be honest) but it works well enough.

You want a 720nm for the best effect on films available now, higher and it'll be hard work getting an image and higher than 760 and you won't get one. (I haven't tested but this is what data sheets and people on the internet say.)
I use a Fuji gel filter cut to size and mounted in a regular filter with the glass taken out (it was cheaper than a regular filter and probably better quality than most of the not super expensive ones). Don't know if they're available/cheap in the UK but maybe there's something similar.

I've got the cheapest EPSON flatbed scanner with negs adapter I could find used on PriceMinister, works fine.

The new Nikon D850 has a film scanning mode, in-camera... That's such a great idea.

Hey guys!
I'm just wondering how my fellow film photographers store and organise their photos.
I've got a lot of photos and my hardrive is nearly full. How would you do it once its full?

Digital or material storage? (Not that I have good solutions to either)

When this happened to me I got like an archive hard drive for pictures beyond a certain year. So currently I have a drive with pics from 2010-2014 which is full, then my current working drive which has 2015 onwards. Each drive then has it's own Lightroom library. Probably not the best solution but works for me. I find that I never really look at stuff I've taken more then a couple of years ago...

• #14496
Yeah good idea. So you've saved like a catalog for each year? In Lightroom then that on a hardrive? Then just delete the catalog on the computer?
Thanks?
Also what hardrive any recommendations?

Um not sure how I did it, was a long time ago. Everything I have in in folders with years. I think as long as you have the folders with the years, it's pretty easy to tell each library what is where. So 2 catalogs in total, 1 for 2010 to 14 then another for the current stuff. But yeah the catalogs are on each harddrive.
It might actually be possible to keep 1 catolog on the computer with everything and then have all the files on 2 hard drives actually. Not sure if that will confuse it though. They'd show as missing until you plugged the hard drive in? I'm really not sure, I might just be confusing you

haha, its okay ill try things out before.
I wish there was just a manual on how to organise film photos.I do it quite well but then lightroom removes all the photos from the folder when importing? so they are then all in lightroom by date and in one catalog. Might go into the apple store or post in digital photography thread.

So it's been years since I last did this but iirc lr has a database separate to the stored image files. You can maintain a legit database with external storage. If you remove the drive it will highlights this but it's ok, it doesn't freak out. You also have separate files containing settings of edits (rather than duplicated image files edited, if you get me). This is kinda it's raison d'etra. Do not move or delete these database and edit files. You can back them up if you like but don't fuck with them, they're not large in file size so best leave them.
tl:dr
Lightroom, external drives for image storage but nothing more, illford binder and archival sleeves (for negs), silver print archival boxes (for prints).

Does anyone push their film from 400iso to 1600 in camera for street photography in slightly lower light?
I have a Canon Multi Tele for sale if you like half frame. Great camera.
