  • I hope we'll get a quality triumphal dance from Wiesia.

  • Wiesia not far now, 13.7km to the finish.
    Enjoyed that documentary @M4xime.

  • Go Wiesia. Really impressive ride. Chapeau.

  • 10k.. almost on the parcours.

  • It amazes me that @Wiesia is still going at this time of the evening with that horrid climb just ahead, keep it on girl! Almost till the end! Your going to get so much love, respect and beer when you come home!

  • The parcours is downhill, so less than 1km of climb to go. Go Go Go!

  • She is almost there!!!

  • @Wiesia you legend!!!

  • Well done @Wiesia! Toughed it out.

Get stuck in to those beers and souvos.

  • Woop!

  • Hooray!

  • Awesome work!

  • Yay! Awesome work @Wiesia

  • Well done @Wiesia for sticking it out to the finish. Hope you can find a couple of days to recover.

Hopefully someone has organised a heroes welcome party back in London for all riders, because I'm sure a lot of us on this forum have many questions to ask you all.

  • Amazing ride @Wiesia - you should be very proud. Enjoy those hard earned beers.

  • Our lost champion of ultra distance racing, Mike Hall answered this question following his US Tour Divide win in The Brooks Bugle, July 2016 ....

"Racing the divide has been a transformative experience for me in so many ways and in some way has touched almost everything I have done since. The trail might take the body to the physical place; covering vast distances through wild open and desolate landscapes alive with wildlife and changing before your eyes. The race however, the thrill of the chase, the potent cocktail of adrenaline, endorphins, fatigue, sleep deprivation, stress and finally relief, takes the mind to quite another. The personal satisfaction, confidence and empowerment from the achievement lasts a lifetime. For me this combination is untouchable.
This is why, for now at least, you can keep your nice, your leisurely and your convenience and if it comes to it, you can also keep your professional sports. This is not a tour and no, I do not want to slow down because I really don’t think I could possibly enjoy any more than I do."

  • Great quote. I think what amazes me about the best in these races is that they have all the physical, mental, routing, fuelling, sleep-depravation and technical challenges to deal with, which are enough/more than enough for even the most serious rider, as well as the race element and pushing themselves to actually finish ahead of some other serious riders. I have the utmost respect for anyone riding the TCR and anyone finishing, but those actually racing it, that's another level.

  • Goran has just started the last parcour...

  • Ultra distance racing holds zero appeal for me personally, but that's a wonderful quote.

  • Uh, it's a race.

I've experienced and learned an amazing amount during my ultra races. Just because I'm not stopping and doing a walking tour of a castle doesn't mean I'm not experiencing things or discovering things.

The touring thread is over there >>>
