Yeh, pretty sure they use Novatec hubs, they look similar enough.
Just Riding Along are possibly worth a look aswell, although I know some of their hubs are the Bitex ones.

I'm looking to get some new disc brake wheels for my daily commuter. These are to replace a set of 'Fulcrum Racing Sport Disc Clincher' (1892g) - http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WPFURSPOD/fulcrum-racing-sport-disc-clincher-wheelset
I'll be riding on 35mm tyres and putting 15-30 miles per day, 5 days a week into them - in all weather conditions.
I'm erring towards getting a set built up by SBC. I have no idea where to start with what's on offer, though - http://www.sbccycles.com/wheel-building-london/
Any recommendations on a combination that will be fast and sturdy? I've had issues with bearings needing to be replaced due to water ingress before, so anything that reduces the level of maintenance I can't do myself is particularly welcome.
[It's for SRAM 11 speed and QR skewers - not thru axle]

Shimano RS505 CL laced to a nice wide 29er rim

DT Swiss 350 hubs are about as reliable and long lasting as you'll get.

I've done TCR04, TABR, TCR05 and all the training miles in between on one. Other than being a bit noisy, no problems so far.

Says it all!
Toss the freehub off and stick a bit of grease in if the noise pisses you off. They're not too bad though, no where near Hope levels of sound.

Any noise that wakes the fkndgs is bad noise but yeah, they're not too bad. I think I've only had Shimano that are quieter. I wanted to service them with the proper DT lube but I'm too lazy to order it.

Get yer sen an Onyx. Been on the list for years, can't justify the cost though.
-
• #7961
Onyx hub? Not familiar. What's special about them?
-
• #7962
Silent! And they engage instantly. Not THAT expensive either (probs about Chris King price I'd imagine) although they're maybe 100g heavier than a regualr hub IIRC.
Also, really low rolling resistance (I think that's the right term)

$450 = not that expensive? I've bought cheaper powermeter hubs!
100g heavier, sheesh. Are they durable? Does anyone fast use them or just bling fan mtbers? :)

Perfect.
Except the price, weight, availability, fact I need to buiild a new wheel.. :)

really low rolling resistance
90% of rolling resistance comes from the tyres. 90% of the 10% that's left comes from the bearing seals. Hybrid ceramic bearings will, it's true, make a small difference to the remaining 1% that's down to the rolling elements.
The drive system is incredibly clever, being silent and having very low backlash combined with minimal back torque. In fact, it's so clever that Shimano put it on some cheap hubs more than 20 years ago, and kept doing so for long enough that there are even CenterLock versions.
In case you didn't notice, this post contains hyperbole, but nowhere near as much as the marketing BS issued by the snake oil salesmen at Onyx. -

But are any of Shimano's hubs silent? The ones I own are quiet but not silent.

But are any of Shimano's hubs silent?
The SilentClutch hubs are silent. You wouldn't necessarily want to use them because they only used the system on low end product, but if you do then you can certainly sneak up on people.

It's for my ultra bike and sneaking past dogs. I liked my old Shimano Ultegra hubs for crits.
You could freewheel away sitting on someone's wheel without them knowing. -

:-D That first video; I was hoping there'd be the faint grinding noise of a slightly out of true disc rotor.
I reckon if you tried one, you'd never go back.

Any reason not to buy the alloy Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG's as a winter wheelset?
-
• #7971
Zipp 30s or Hope to Kinlin XR31?
Can't really decide which would be better
-
• #7972
What's the price difference? Zipp for the logos, Kinlin XR31T for sensible and cheap but wouldn't bother with Hope hubs. @cycleclinic builds them for a fair price
-
• #7973
They would be the same price for me.
-
• #7974
Any reason not to
Depends on what you mean by winter wheels. Hard to get spares when they break/wear out. If you're prepared to replace the whole wheel when the rim wears out, or wait a week for a spoke, then they should be fine. If they have to get you to work every day, some 32 spoke hand built might be a better idea.

I'm looking for some sturdy disc road wheels with 15mm thru-axle at front and 135mm qr rear.
Will be for a sscx bike that ill be commuting on t0o. Tempted by crabon...
Thoughts?
Top marks! Thanks, pretty sure the 4season hubs are what I've got.
