Just saw this. I are intrigued. Plan on finishing an album in the next few weeks and artwork is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I (think) i've built up a bit of an aesthetic identity for the band through the choice of images used to accompany my various uploads but I have zero skill at physically putting together a coherent artwork including text etc. I'd be well up for chatting if you're serious about giving it a go.

i rarely use the a7s i mix in headphones mostly then switch the adams on to check the final mix but they are far too powerful for my space and i run them very quiet ( desk in living room ) then find too much bass in the mixes when i take the tracks elsewhere . i need to tighten the mixes was thinking ns10 type .

Hmmm yeah! My A5x's were bought 2nd hand for £350 about 3 years ago. They were only a couple of months old at the time but one of them had an issue with the power supply when I bought it. Although they were out of warranty due to me not being the original purchaser, the (legendary) guy at Adam Audio based in Brixton, replaced the amp out of warranty for free. Well, for a thank-you bottle of Brandy as it turned out. They've worked immaculately ever since. Cosmetically and functionally minty though. Have the original boxes and docs.
I use them in conjunction with a bigger pair of passive Celestions these days so they get very little use. Have a think about it and let me know. In terms of £money i'm on a tight budget these days i'm afraid so would have to be close to a straight swap. No worries if that doesn't work for you.

I have a similar but sort of opposite problem. I mix in the living room mainly on headphones and check stuff with both sets of monitors at low volume but with the DT-880 open back headphones and A5's found I was letting too much previously undetected sub-100hz get through so when I reference checked stuff on earbuds it was way too bassy!

i did some mastering at D+M in berlin and they were quite impressed by the adams bottom end on 70K genelecs so much so that the record store downstairs hardwax called to complain about the noise lol . but that was mixed in a previous studio (living room) space

Pretty sure i've asked this somewhere before but does anyone know how to boost (master?) as dj mix in Audacity? There was an easy way to do it on a PC but i'm using a mac now. Basically i'm looking for an easy and repeatable way to level out the audio and amplify it before saving as an mp3. Cheers.

Sounds like you need a limiter. I don't know anything about Audacity but a quick google brings up lots of chat about applying limiters to Audacity tracks...

If your mix is using commercially released tracks and is fairly even volume wise, just normalise to -0.3dB. This will take out the headroom you hopefully left whilst recording without changing the sound/feel of the mix. If you have big volume changes then the correct thing is to automate the track volume after normalising. Using a good limiter will work but you lose dynamics and if you push it too hard the mix will 'pump' unpleasantly.

I generally try to keep a pretty even volume throughout the mix. I'll try to normalise to -0.3dB and see how that works. It sound similar to something i've tried previously, there's just so many different ways to skin a cat. Thanks for your help.

Normalising basically turns the volume of everything up so that the highest peak (probably snare/kick hits in a punchy track) hits your designated limit (in this case -0.3db). You can normalise to 0.0db but some converters don't play nicely with the absolute max.

I was looking for someone to service an old stereo amp (which I now use for monitoring as it happens) and sent a message to a local guy who also does music production. Out of curiosity I clicked on his music production site and his gear-list. This is what it said:

That last item is a very distant third below the previous two. Most of
my audio hardware is either heavily modified or designed and built
from scratch by me. I also write my own software plugins when I need
something that doesn't already exist. It's all quite adequate for

you hire a carpenter or plumber ask him for a list of every item in
his toolbox before you'll agree to hire him. I'm sure the answer will

I've got a constantly revolving door of hardware in my room, but the setup centres around an Octatrack, OP1 and a bunch of guitar pedals.
Currently looking to shift a Korg Monologue - it's the red one, pretty much brand new with box and power adapter, looking for £220 or so shipped? Or come get it in Glasgow.
Still very happy with my Duet II for 90% of my recording though. Would be nice to able to track 4 signals for live duets with two vocals and 2 instrument mics though.
A mate of mine recommended getting hold of a second hand Duet I which can be had for about £100 these days and setting up an aggregate device as suggested above.
