Ah kk, didn't know they changed it, yamaha supply a few engines to volvo so maybe it's from them?
Read a report on a <30k miles 4 year old xc90 with a d5 that had terminal failure due to basically been used as a shopping car. Was in volvo evry 9-12 months instead of by milage yet still happened.
Saab 2.0 and 2.3 ecotec (gm derived) turbo petrol used to have horrific problems with sludging if not used right.
Interesting to hear everyone's input, thank you. As I basically don't really like or understand cars (wrong thread I know!), I tend to buy when the old one is past saving/ can't be trusted to do its stuff anymore and then keep the next one until it's in the same state. As for the dpf thing the d2 engine wasn't the ford jobbie from my12 onwards iirc and supposedly did better in the regeneration department. With that kind of mileage on a relatively new car it seems unlikely the regeneration hasn't been allowed to happen regularly? Anyway fuck it, I'll get a bit more expensive one that's seen more normal use.
