I keep thinking about getting a disc fork for my steel-framed fixed gear, straight 1 1/8 head tube. The only options seems to be the Condor disc fork or the aliexpress £30-40 fork.
Has anyone got/used the aliexpress one and have they died a fiery death? Am I stupid to even consider it?

I've been considering this too. We can hold hands in trying it as we did with the seatpost? :)

Haha, let me know if you go for it and I'll get one too. Note that I'm 90kg, so I reckon I'd be the first to go 😬
I've read some auto-translated aliexpress reviews of it and I think they're saying that 160mm disc hits the inside of the fork leg...
Out of interest, I took apart the first fake enve seatpost I bought, to fit it to a different bike with a different saddle and noticed that one of the metal wedges (the head of the bolt side) has a little crack in it, from its thinnest point inwards below the hole cut for the bolt.
I think I overtorqued it to try to stop a clicky noise which was actually caused by saddle rather than the post. I'll take a pic when I get a mo'. Might message them, ask them to send me new hardware...
Here's the cracked wedge:

I'm a touch under 65kg so maybe so haha. Not really keen if it can't take a 160 though.
Hmmm. I might get mine out and have a look. It's been solid though, my best Ali purchase to date -

I've got two of 'em and my bro's got one. Had a peek at the one in use daily and at my brother's and they both seem fine.
I'm pretty certain I over torqued the one above... Although with no official torque values who knows what the limit actually is?

Anyone know of experiences with cheap Chinese mtb forks? Looking at things like this:
Mainly because I can't even find a 27.5 rigid fork with thru axles from 'proper' brands. Suggestions welcome.
I seem to remember a green Cannondale someone on 'ere had?

Are you looking for a particular A-C? 490mm full carbon, QR15 http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&c=103&p=1252#top

I have used this one.
370mm/40mm, straight steererThe steerer diameter was slightly undersized and it started to move/make a noise in the headset. This ended in damage to the steerer (outer layer is crushed) and I stopped using it :)
Otherwise finish is pretty cheap. Mine had 3mm extra space in the left side (103mm vs 100mm) which worked as a feature! respace hub for more equal flange distance.
160mm rotor is very tight and only works with some hub setups (or tuning)
So prepare for slightly random measurements.
@bankiren reported one that snapped both fork legs....
buy this fork instead:
omnium short fork 370/38mm steel http://omniumcargo.dk/omnium-one-and-cxc/(but ask specifically for the short version.)

1600m rotor is very tight
I'm not surprised!

ha yes (edited...)

Good link, thanks. Current A-C is 485 on 120mm Sus fork so I'm guessing the 470mm 650b might be a good bet.

Think you may have found the frame I'm looking for!
Can't seem to find any photos of the rear dropouts, any ideas?

• #6194
They are very like pompetamine's

Perfect, exactly what I'm after, thanks!

Yeap I had the same model but the blank ones. They flex a bit but less than aluminium ones. I had them for 1y+ and Im pretty happy with them.
-
• #6198
And I thought that aluminium doesn't flex
-
• #6199
depends on the aluminium

Fake Zipp SL70's anyone?
Super pleased with this full carbon SMP replica for £21. You can see the slight imperfections in the shape of the "hole" in the middle but for that price you can't expect perfection. Compared to my genuine Forma it seems to be slightly longer in the front but that's about it. Around 165gr or so
