Lightweight tent recommendations?

  • On that note, has anyone used seam sealer before and can recommend which one to go with?

  • Silnet is what has come with a number of tents that I've purchased over the years, though that may be old news.

  • Cool, do I need to do it with the tent pitched(as most how to's describe)? Lack of garden and it needing 24hrs to cure makes it tricky.

  • Yeah, tent needs to be pitched. I've seam sealed indoors before - add a little Laudanum and it's a party.

  • Saw this on fb, damn that targeted advertising... been posted here already?

    Likely to flop?

  • Saw that too! I was hoping for an independent review, their gimmicky video put me right off

  • It was all a bit kickstarter-reinvents-wheel, but the concept seems solid. But still, for me I wonder the working temperatures and rain resistance. Having separate parts is cos there's no golden/silver bullet.

  • Yup, same concerns here. They're a bit quiet about their figures and I am not convinced the build quality will stand up to be honest. Plumped for one of those dorsal fin style nature hike things from China instead...

  • Where did you get that for under £100? Online retailers are all around £150

  • Pitching my laser comp has always had a knack to it, I had it down after like 100nights touring with it. But not used it for a few years and I've totally forgotten how to get the taughtness right first time!

  • Completely new to lightweight tent buying, but looking at the Alpkit Ordos 3 as it's in the sale. Thoughts?

  • Just put my jack wolfskin gossamer in northwest marketplace if anyone is interested. Cheers!

  • Any testing yet?

  • Unfortunately not. Received it late and now it's getting a bit too cold for comfort. Slightly annoyed by having to take a walking stick as support also. Will try to modify a carbon one. Sure you could just use any stick you find on the road but.. Worth the $70. Feels pretty well made.

I can pitch it and take some photos this weekend.

  • Only at your leisure, dude.
Walking stick is definitely a no. I always assumed you could just use a folding carbon pole on this style tent.

  • Sure you can. Folding/extendable pole. Not one of these lol.

  • Little bit of whittling around the camp fire and that would work a treat.

  • I use a vango banshee 2 person, it's a spacious 1 person tent ;) fits all your panniers, etc inside. It's actually really easy to pitch after the first time pitching it. the only problem is that is not a freestanding pitch, so you need grass, etc to pitch.
    weight: 2.3kg.
    quite waterproof too!

  • Terranova laser competition 1 is the lightest I used on touring but now I have a Heildeberg altos that is over a 1kg but more reliable on bad weather conditions.

  • I mean Hilleberg Akto solo tent 😎

  • I was looking at the nemo's ones as well, American made.

  • Hilleberg Akto

I have the Soulo. 0.7kg heavier but completely bombproof. A couple of nights on top of mountains with a storm howling around and the tent just shudders slightly.

  • Hilleberg Akto solo tent 😎

You use this touring solo? Have you got pictures of the packed size and how you're carrying it on the bike?

The weight of it is within acceptable parameters, but it's the packed size and shape that I am most curious about and that has led me not to commit to one just yet.

  • It's the usual bag with the tent + poles and herrings right? For my Hubba NX I pack the poles and herring separately attached to the bike, have the tent itself sitting in a lightweight vacuum compressing dry bag
