  • Road or track? If the former, they should be fine. If the latter, they should still probably be fine.

  • Road. Have done 1 race and a few shortish rides on them.

Best ride quality ever, bring an extra level of enjoyment to riding. Glue has held strong so far, fingers crossed it stays that way!

  • I'm fully fed up with the Corsa Speed's - I bought them knowing they were pretty fragile, but on my third puncture in three months that sealant wouldn't seal. Maybe Orange Seal stuff isn't up to it?

Either way, looking out for something different for TT's going forward.

  • So I used that Caragona stuff. It actually took two goes but the glue was pretty thick in places. It doesn't seem to nasty, although weirdly, on the night I left the rim "soaking" in our lounge (i.e. a confined space), the carbon monoxide alarm went off at 4:30am. Might have been a coincidence, but the gas man didn't detect anything nasty.

  • So, they changed the colour of the basetape on Tempos from black to Velox-like white, which will look pretty annoying on my black rims.

I'm wondering if black felt-tipping them first will affect the glue.

Old school markers contained toluene or other solvents that could effect the cement bond between basetape and tyre. This is your main concern and the limiting factor of the tyre-rim bond.

  • Second hand tubs have some dry glue on. They will be going on rims that have been cleaned and re-glued (three layers). Re-glue tubs or no?

  • Definitely reglue

  • Yesboss

  • Brush off the old loose mastic bits with a stiff brush. Add a thin layer of fresh mastic and let dry.

  • Do you pre-glue a new tub to carry and use as a spare?

  • Do you pre-glue a new tub to carry and use as a spare?

Don't use a new tub as spare. Best are old repaired tyres.

  • ^^What they said
    ^Yes

  • Thanks. Old tub with or without fresh glue as a spare?

  • While we're here and balls deep in h0t t|_|b ch4t, is there a chemical that clean (wet) tub glue off brushes? I bought some of those plumber's flux brushes, but wondering if I can get more than one use out of them.

  • ^^Old tub is fine, I'd give it a fresh coat of glue just for peace of mind
^ Not that I've ever found, you can prolong their life by sealing the brush in a sandwich bag directly after using it, but it's often not worth the bother with flux brushes.

  • Old tub with or without fresh glue as a spare?

Don't bother with fresh glue unless it was a track mastic-- shellac based or other non-sticky cement. Rim heat and pressure (from inflation) will be enough to create a sufficient bond to get you home.

  • Will I have any issues with fit/feel/performance mounting a 28mm road tub to avreatively ~20mm external width road rim?

Would it be better to stick to something thinner?

  • is it worth putting Caffélatex in Conti Sprinters or are they pretty hard wearing?

  • Butyl inner right? Put 20ml or something .. essentially will become a slime inner tube ..

  • dont bother putting sealant in the sprinters. I have received some IRC formula pro team tubulars. yes these are tubs used by some pro they sponsor. i need to mount them. i am hoping for great thing but its nearly winter so i'll probably puncture.

  • Anyone got any silly-light tubs I can borrow to put on the silly-light wheels I’ve borrowed for the Nationals next weekend?

  • Sadly no I don't have any light tubs. Good luck at the nationals.

  • I just inflated my tubs up to 100psi off the rims (to see if they held air), then I Googled to see if it was a good idea or not...

    Minor base-tape come-offage

  • That's shouldn't cause the base tape to come off.
