I was actually in London - and out of, on Kent lanes - this weekend, with my friend @Saarf & his friend Simon. Wonderful ride, would do again.
Coming from this relatively small city called Tilburg NL (pop. 200,000), London traffic and the sheer distance to cover before one is at last in the 'rural areas' was quite surprising to me. I've been to London before but never on a bike. Respect to all London cyclists!

There is an awesome tradition at a place called Hill. It started a few years ago, the Women's Institute offered to bake cakes for a cycling club in Cirencester. What was meant to be a one off is now a monthly event through summer, people ride from all over the west country to go and get cake. Today I saw cyclists from Cirencester, Newport, Caerphilly, Bristol, Gloucester and more all descend on a tiny little village. I had two slices of cake and a cup of tea and it cost £3, none of your look mum no friends "cake, flat white and a fucking mortgage please".
On the way home a bee flew into my bonnet on a descent. It managed to sting me before being semi crushed, it was still twitching when I took my helmet off. It now hurts when I demonstrate any facial emotion.
But fuck that, I got two slices of delicious cake and a cup of tea for £3.

Did I mention the table of cake?!?!

@dancing james, that (sans the bee-based incident) sounds pretty perfect.
My lad rode out from Sheffield and up Winnats Pass.
I was on patio-laying duty so went nowhere. -

Finally the weather here in Abruzzo is cool enough to cycle, at only 30'C. It was pretty much 40' all last week so had to limit myself to the beach.
The girlfriend needs practice on a road bike so she showed me the flat and empty road round the back.
Just 5 minutes along it there is a nice hill, narrow and multiple hairpins. Takes a few minutes to reach the top so ideal for training.
It starts somewhere below the industrial building.

Had a nice little run through Brechfa Forest.
Weather held out despite the threat of thundery showers. Pretty much had the place to myself as I set out.

You are packing very light! Singlespeed too?
Enjoy it, the weather looks grim for the next 48 hours though.

Its the road out of Buckingham that goes up to Stowe school and the national trust gardens.

Good luck, especially with the wind finally turning and rain coming. Fens must've treated you well today. Strong bike choice too!

Ta mate, Im proper knackered in a good way. Really pleased I did it was wanting to do a 50 this summer. Its really nice to ride out in the lanes no traffic no red lights just constant riding two hills beat me, had to stop catch my breath, they were not even that big and an another cyclist cruised past smiling, he did give me encouragement with a keep going shout.

2015 Cotic Escapade. I was measured by Cyclefit and this, in a small, is almost perfect for me.

Nice. It's good to feel good!

Cool, nice set up, and traveling very light, back pack or all in the frame bags.

• #10323
Awesome, good luck! Sounds like a great adventure.

All in the frame bags. I've been ruthless on the basis that if I'm desperate I can buy stuff. It's nothing like those remote mtb trips where you have to be prepared for any possibility.

Chiltern's were nice this morning; reasonably quiet car-wise and only a few groups out and about. Bit windy, bit of showery rain, much sun in-between, some of the lanes resembling Autumn-y muddy ditches already - and no puffballs in the Wallingford / Stoke Row / Sonning triangle :-(
Took to the keo's for the first time and apart from a few slips, quite like them vs. spds. Much better on climbs for some reason.
