Apparently rider 235 has been struck by lightning.
But he's back on the bike and continuing.

Hopefully it doesn't happen again...

An amazing feat !

Sorry for being a tease but I don't want to get into details as I wasn't directly involved. There's details on other places of the internetz if you really want to know. He's an amazingly strong rider and very competitive. I totally get that you might not be at your best during the race, or right after, hell even before the start I get it. But this was something else.

My Google skills aren't good enough to find it. But I'm very intrigued...

There were two ugly threads on Facebook, both of which have been deleted thankfully. A bunch of people,a couple involved in the race,a lot of apparently uninvolved people, getting personal about Ian's statement and the race organisations handling of the banned road. No one looked good coming out of it from what I could see.

Social media probably isn't a good place when emotionally invested in something, tired, frustrated or disappointed.

I didn't actually see Ian post anything in either thread apart from the statement. So don't want to give people the impression he was posting or making problems.

Lightning jumps gaps of several miles from cloud to ground with no problems. A one inch detour around a piece of rubber does not represent a problem.

I bet Bjorn is a lovely bloke. Look at his lovely face. He has kind, happy eyes.

Bjorn's write up of the 2015 PBP is one of my favourite cycling related readings/writings. It's full of wonder at how he's in this position and optimism at keeping going. A total unknown, unsupported and riding a solo breakaway for 600 odd kilometres. Utterly wonderful.

Rode his heart out in this race and set the standard for skinny to beat. Lot's of respect should go to Bjorn.

Geoffroy Dussault has had a great last few days if I'm not mistaken. Edit: Jonas just coming in to finish 3rd. Cap 84. Samuli Makinen up to 13th now!!
