  • Thanks again guys, top suggestions and I think its getting a bit clearer as to what I should do

  • top suggestions

    Ask 5 lfgssers which bike.

    Get 25 different answers.

  • Honda to stop selling bikes in the UK from 2040. Says electric not viable.

Probably just trying to influence and reverse that fossil fuels potential legislation in 2040

  • This company has only existed for about ten years and look what they've achieved! I think Honda can do better. The Lightning LS-218 has been around for the last couple of years.
It's name comes from it's land speed record achievement of doing 218mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats (fastest production motorcycle to date). It makes over 200bhp (at the back wheel), and produces 168 ft-lbs of torque (all available throughout the rev range). Truly amazing! Once range increases, charging availability increases and price decreases, electric bikes will replace our oil burning dinosaurs for sure. The future is closer than you think.

  • Range is a beast on a bike without a revolutionary development in battery technology. Electric scooters for the city would seem to have a bright future but anything requiring range or performance is going to have a problem with the size and weight of the battery required. Honda (via their partner Mugen) have been sinking plenty into high performance electric bikes with their e-racing project. They hold the electric lap record at the TT (been racing there since 2012) at 119mph. The problem is, that's still only good for one 37 mile lap and it weighs a whopping 248kg.

  • Look at how battery tech has developed over the last 20 years.

Look at how electric motor tech/computer tech has developed over the last 20 years.

Anything is possible in the next 20 years.

  • Yeah that's kind of what I mean. Sony released the first Lithium-Ion battery back in the early 90s. It's been refined a bit since then for sure but no quantum shifts in technology.

  • 248kg, if you high side that and it comes down on you there's little chance of getting up. If you dropped it in the driveway you'd need a crane to lift it.

  • Ángel Nieto passed away today following a traffic accident riding his quad bike in Ibiza.

He had 90 GP wins and 13 World Championships although famously he always referred to it as 12+1 World Championships for superstitious reasons.

    RIP

  • ...all that and still sounds like a hairdryer or?

*edit, watched - yeah. Yeah it does.

  • Pic of my Big Red Baja Pig! In theory, I should wire up all the dual sport shite, indicators, brake light etc. Think I'll just leave the existing enduro wiring on and break the laaaaw.

  • Cb500x is an excellent suggestion. As is the older counterpart, think it's a cb600? Around 2007-2012 sort of age, and some fairings, pillion works OK on it, comfy for long distance and they are in a low state of tune, so healthy on fuel and last forever. Mate bought a 2009 with about 85k on it and rides impeccable

  • Piaggio MP3. anyone ride one? can I on a B1 licence?

  • It depends which one you are talking about;

"The original Mp3 came in two variants - the Mp3 and the Mp3 LT. The LT version had a slightly wider track and a parking brake, which made it legally a tricycle that could be ridden whilst holding a car licence (the standard Mp3 had a narrower track, no parking brake, and required a suitable motorcycle licence).

The later Mp3 Yourban only comes in the wide-track configuration, so that all models are legally rideable with a car licence.

That changed with the introduction of the new licencing categories in Jan which mean that people obtaining a full driving licence after the cut-off date are not permitted to ride a tricycle and to do so will have to complete a CBT and obtain an A-category motorcycle licence (or A2 if age-appropriate)"

  • Why would you want to.

  • looks like a laugh and I have a license to ride it... cue the "thats not a real bike, you pussy" comments

  • That's not a real bike, you pussy

  • Not really. It's more of 'They're utter shit, we expected better form you and your taste in wheels...also did I mention they're utter shit?'

  • only ever ridden an NRG on a greek island in flipflops. don't know much about bikes, how to change gears or have any sort of bike license.

  • Technically they're not a bike. They're a trike.

    (Obligatory) you pussy

  • Get provisional license if you don't have it.
    Get CBT license on it.
Get a 125cc bike/moped. Something Japanese for cheap use and abuse. Something Italian pricey but cool.

  • Yeah, ya feckin pussy @ApolloXL
