Looks like he either got stumped by the tunnel at St Anton or didn't fancy doing the St Anton Pass.

They race up that climb in the Tour of Sibiu in July; Egal Bernal (new Sky signing) did the last 20km in under an hour to win

Time difference is a better indicator of a lead than distance but you can only compare times when they're on the same roads.
The latest point for Bjorn (just outside Vestem) was at 10:45 (remember they're an hour ahead) vs 7:47 for Skinny. So that's a 3h lead.

I don't know much about these things, but aren't we supposed to scoff at noobs who put their QRs on the drive side?
Also, is he smiling? How come he's smiling?

Something to do with the discs I imagine. Less stuff in the way when trying to open,
Thru axle wheels have the QR part on that side.

Apparently some people do it with disc brakes so there's no risk of jamming your knuckle in the rotor when tightening/losening.

Also stops the temptation to lever against the rotor (bending it) and potentially reduces the possibility of an untightened QR falling into the rotor which got some press around the time of the trek recall http://road.cc/content/news/148951-trek-issues-quick-release-skewer-voluntary-recall

It's also due to hot rotors. Ain't nobody got time for burning fingers when opening a QR/TA

Re: Ian To's routing
Someone mentioned on the Facebook group that he looked like he was making it up as he went along - something to do with a bizarre looking route between Austria and CP3. His wife, who I think is also updating his own FB page, argued that he had planned his route meticulously, knew it off by heart, and had discussed it so much that she too knew all the details.
Given where he is now considering how strange some of his decisions seem, maybe it is working for him.

That's right, you see the distance delta concertina when they hit the climbs

Not far to the top for Skinny now (the control is a few km into the descent on the other side).

On the strength of this maybe Skinny should consider a bash at PBP in 2019.
