See-through axle?

Lol.

Looks like it will end up nice and symmetrical, save for the flange diameter.

I have sorted the end caps. Total width of the hub is 122mm. I am going to keep it here as I don't want remove more material from the caps.
I was toying with the idea of moving the bearings inwards, but it is too much of a faff and I don't wanna risk fucking up the hub. -

I have also manage to remove the disc tabs. Fucking scary on a lathe that is :-)

Lathes are scary full stop, anything that can rip your arm off without even blinking is.

Top work

And it is done. It ended up 124mm. I must have miscalculated somewhere down the line.
I could potentially take it all a part and trim a bit more off, but I think it will work. I have previously used 130mm hubs in the frame. -

Which Novatec front hub will last the longest in mud?
-
• #62
Perfect!
None of them are sealed that well so shimano....
-
• #63
uhh and final weight?
-
• #64
Given that you seem to be competent with replacing sealed bearings - pretty much any of them with sealed bearings. When the bearings get a bit slow just replace them.

Wheels ordered from Stayer Cycles:
Black Kinlin xr31 / black a291 + custom ss hub / silver sapim laser spokes. I am hoping I can get away with 28 front spokes. I am not sure what final weight will be but...
I am getting the weight to be 1650g ex qrs

I've gone for the Campag look alike. Think they're the A171.
You might live to regret those brakes when it gets muddier. I had to run them really close to the rim and even then had little modulation. You might find that with the lever quick release enabled you don't hit the rim at all. After trying out more expensive brakes (Avid Ultimate, TRP revox), all things considered (setup, mud clearance, price, weight) I still think the wide Tektros are the best.

What do you mean about wide Tektros?
I currently have Shorty 6 with cartridge brake pad holders + Dura 3 brake pads and they stop me just fine.
I am aware of the CX8.4 issues, but I hope running them with TRP RRL levers will make it work better (surely they are designed to work together??) and if not I'll swap back. I have a had Revox before (on my Pompino - wtf was I doing lol) and they are great, but soooo much money new. I should obviously have kept them for this. Also I only paid £60 for the TRP CX8.4s so it is end of the world if I need to sell them on. -

It's quite possible I paired the mini v's with the wrong levers.
CR720 are the wide Tektros. Only downside is I do tend to clip the rear brake when remounting occasionally, and there are no cable adjusters.

Oh yeah I have had those. I find that my Shorty 6s brake just as fine with my current mod and setup. But for some reason I have had the straddle cable setup up so the yoke kept hitting the head tube making everything rattle.
Brakes have arrived.
