There is this video on instagram showing someone even does it without drivetrain.

Skinny is in Romania. 277km till the next CP.
What time will he get there?

He's running 36 13 but swapped to a 23 when he got to the alps

I think he's in a hotel judging by the delightful tweets about his bum from a couple of hours ago

I kinda hoped he was. With the curtains closed.

Tip for Ian To. Avoid areas labelled on the map as 'National Park'

Dan Massie has had a sidewall blow out in the middle of nowhere.

Congratulations on getting as far as you did it looks gruelling to say the least and not an easy call to make, well done!

@hippy is either taking a break or his tracker is down, clearly pleased to be out of Austria either way, I can't imagine it will be top of his list for his next holiday!
The good news is that Hungary looks even worse. We should have another whole week of hippy's moaning about his arse. I have to say that for me, hippy's suffering is one of the high points of any endurance event.
Top three things about TCCNo5 - no particular order
skinny's athleticism
David Coulon's dogged determination
hippy's moaning. -

He's back in the nearest town, fret not.

Ah good.

skinny is absolutely hammering it today.

He's still somehow not falling behind much though is he. Despite basically doing this by a seemingly tissue drawn map but someone with one eye and half a brain.
You were right about Goy as well, that's some serious consistent pace and he's not really that far out as I expected. He can be a danger to both up ahead. -

Looks like the most direct route to CP4 from about 30km out is on single-track unpaved roads. Is that going to be the quickest way, or will competitors prefer a slightly longer but more comfortable route?

Wow, and this is the Transfagarasan (sorry Romanians) when they get there:

It might not be as disastrous as I thought, seems to be within 2km of Matthias now, and he will have a descent to do at some point...
In other news, Jonas seems to be doing a less direct and more hilly route than skinny and Bjorn took - although skinny tweeted pics of a bad surface so may be better. -

Ian To backtracking

Yes, he's in the first of this years Transcontinental videos on youtube, around the 2 minute mark if I remember correctly.
