My the axel on my shutter precision hub failed yesterday during my cross America tour. Noticed that the charging on my Luxos wasn't working. Inspectes the hub to find a chunk gone out of the axel. Bearing are totally gone and it no longer provides power. Luckily I was a day from madison where Im staying with a friend and theres loads of good bike shops here
Anyone had an experiences like this? Would this be covered under the two year Eu electronics warranty?

I am a dynamo n00b.
I want to use these lights:
Front: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=102406
Rear: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=39195Which one of these dynamos would work for the set up?
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=31987
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=4951I'd ideally like the Alfine hub for CL and matchy.
And how do I wire? Dynamo > Front light > rear light?

get this hub, top of the line shimano, lighter and only 10 euros more or so
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=24358;menu=1000,2,98
Supernova rear is only compatible with Supernova front light and hub, I believe, though others on here will know more.
if you want something small and expensive, try this
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=100048;menu=1400,1410,1411
as an alternative to front light, there's also this
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=193881;menu=1400,1410,1411;page=4
and yes front light comes with cable, you run to dynamo, and another cable you run to rear light.

Need 36h. Should've mentioned :(

ah man .. wanted to keep it cheap and lock-able.
Whats a good rear light thats not rack mount? I dont think I will put a rear rack on this. Its a Surly ECR commuter for missus.
The front one, any specific reason you recommend that?

The DH-T785 or DH-3D80 (they're identical other than colour) both come in 36h.
Busch & Muller Secula comes in mudguard and seatstay flavours.
IQ-X is great, but if it's just a commuter then the IQ2 Eyc is perfect. Beware the E-bike versions of the lights and always get the Senso ones as they'll adjust according to light levels. -

what about the rear light? will life be easier if I just put a rack on it? I have a Tubus Fly just lying around ..

this one slightly more expensive again, but 36h, centrelock disc

expensive, but not rack mount is this son

this one for mudguard mounting
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=4975;menu=1400,1410,1411or this one for seat stay
https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;product=72822;menu=1400,1410,1411I like the look of the iqx, you can mount it upside down if required and it's pretty bright. Looks like the spupernova e3 I have but not as spendy. The first one you linked to is fine as well, got the one a couple up for my GF's bike and works really well, super bright.
this one or similar

Get a Secula for the rear (@cornelius_blackfoot linked to the seatstay version, mudguard version also available).
-
• #937
Thank you both! It will have mudguards so that one seems like a good option. Cheap too.
@cornelius_blackfoot any reason not to go with Alfine hub? The one you linked isnt too far off from SP.
Next question; wiring. I have no idea how this works if I go with Busch + Müller front and rear.

• #938
You won't have any issue with the wiring for busch and muller, only supernova have weird wiring, everyone else's are compatible.
Recommended the other hub, because it's top of the line, lighter, and still relatively cheap compared to Son or SP.
You can get this one, which is still slightly lighter than Alfine, but also cheaper and comes in 36 hole

Hub to front light
Front light to back lightAll wires and connectors should be in the various boxes but if not, eBay is your friend.
Use sugru or tape to keep wires tidy.

The headlamp will have a long pair of wires (joined for lost of their length) and a short pair of pigtails. The long one goes to the hub. There should be a free length of wire with some spade terminals at one end. That goes to the rear. Fit the terminals to the pigtails on the headlamp and trim to an appropriate length (not necessary, purely for neatness). A pair of unattached spade terminals will be included somewhere. Strip the insulation off the wires going to the rear (a penknife should be fine), slip the terminals onto your wire and crimp the terminals with pliers. Attach to rear light.
Note - the rear light doesn't care about polarity (so it isn't marked) but the front does. Check the B&M instructions for which wire is Earth/negative (normally had a white stripe) and attach to the correct part of the hub fitting.

Quite a slow time, you'd have taken him easily. -

Having a wheel built (cheers @arup) with SP dynamo hub for upcoming tour.
Initially it'll be for charging smartphone (for maps and photos) but ultimately want to add in lights as well. I am looking at BUSCH & MULLER E-werk and USB-Werk devices to enable USB charging but keen to hear of any better alternatives that won't break the bank.

Nah, never saw that when I was looking. I heard bad things about E-Work, I've heard PlugIIIs fail if not sealed properly and various other units are shit. D1 came out about the right time and has worked for me.

Cool. Interested to hear about other options.
If you email them (shutter.company at msa.hinet.net) they will let you know
ie.
"Yes, we make 24H, 28H, 32H and 36H for PL-8. However, at this moment, 24H hub is out of stock. Sorry about this. If you can change to 28H, you can choose PL-8 in black, silver or red."
