I got bored of reading so I skipped a few pages.
I'll tell you what my problem is, this is how your "club" comes across:
Let's get a bunch of people with massive disposable income together, package them up in a really gloss finish, and wave it under the noses of some companies to get sponsorship and free shit. So just like in the real world, the people who really don't need free shit because they can afford everything they could ever desire, get a tonne of free shit.
If you think that's fair, you're the epitome of why I hate all the cunts in the industry I work in. You're not doing anything new, you're just harnessing your privilege that you've been wonderfully gifted to make your life better.
Good job guys, pat yourselves on the back.

For the first time in my life I must be the 1%!
I joined my LBS's club to get the 15% discount and because they kept doing things for free for me and I felt bad about it.
Although riding by yourself all the time is boring, I keep meaning to make the shop rides but then always seem to end up riding with other people. So now I feel bad about that.

My LBS have an affiliated club. I have joined the club and never even been to the shop.
Why did I join? They organise rides a few times a week. They put on events, are helping out with the TOB. After a couple of rides I have made a few friends. There is a great wealth of knowledge within the club, they know great places to go riding and where the good cake shops are.
Discount at the shop and occasional offers on other things were not motivators for me.
I enjoy the diversity of people in the club, a musical instrument repairer, dental technician, police officer involved in the Grenfell inquiry etc etc, Members age ranges from teens to seventies...
The idea of riding with just recent converts to cycling from one industry sounds terrible to me.

So... I take it no-one from this thread is thinking about joining the club/collective/party/EC1 army?
-
• #1843
none of us have corporate email address
-
• #1844
EC1 don't have any need for a classical musician.
-
• #1845
I actually meet the criteria to join EC1, apart from being a cunt.
-
• #1846
Oh wait I am a cunt.
-
• #1847
Can #sakosocks join ec1
-
• #1848
I slightly qualify but couldn't think of anything worse than riding round with a group of weight weenies wearing the same mundane wanky kit... plus I only have a cross bike so that means I'm out straight away

I've always liked "I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member", but it turns out the ones that wont accept me as a member sound shite too.

maybe if you name her Sandra and call her a "dirty girl" when you ride cross you'll earn a seat at the table??
I'm neither social or pathetic.
