Those cranks look so much better all black. Not sure they fully suit the frame though
-
• #3678
No they don't really but I wanted to go aero. I was also thinking it might look better without the zen logo.
The only problem I have now is that riding this 58 Dolan, has made me realise that my 56 Hoy bike is probably too small a frame :-P
-
• #3679
The Hoy is massively lower and longer so the Dolan is definitely a better fit

sad with a flat front tyre and no time to fix it. i got 32s in there with a surly steamroller fork on 51x19 with a half link. i suspect either the tyre is fubar (two rides, two punctures) or the rim pinching the inner tube from the inside. will put the tyre on another wheel and see what turns up.
will possibly swap the fork for a somewhat tighter steel one and get some 30mm tyres, likely schwalbe g-ones; the back is a weeny bit too tight with 33mm challenges and the rear brake (yes i drilled the frame, legal requirement in germany and want no hassle with popo)

Dolan with steamroller fork? Pics!

• #3682
might be able to do that tonight @alialias if no one else does. would just be frame+fork not a complete build. :)

Nice!
Definitely don't drill a Wing Pista; there's no solid alu part inside the crown area underneath the carbon; it's a true monocoque. Also, the distance from underside of fork crown to crown race is very small (around 15mm IIRC), so not much material there to begin with before severing fibres by adding a 6mm brake hole. -

if the masses demand, ill see what i can come up with tonight. full build mind

We crave and demand

With the stem I have, the position of the stem/bars clamp on Hoy is about the same, but I have to use spacers to keep the bars legal (as they're much deeper) - which feels dirty :-P
I think I'll have a mooch around for an XL Hoy frame :P

Much demand

Keep you in suspense.

the black on the headtube is electric tape, because it looks better like this with the jump fomr black of the fork to grey. i guess on black this is not an issue.
i call it my dolandale track '17, the original.

need to decide:
a) if i stick to square taper and get me a suntour superbe 144bcd faux track (i have the seatpost in the parts box, pedals are suntour superbe road, see dolandale track '17),
b) get a bb for my da 7710 that actually is smooth. 5500 was naff. (da 7710 seapost now on and wheelset is da 7710 to a23s) or
c) ditch the old technology and go something external.i might go cheap and cheerful with an alfine and 43x16; same ratio as 51x19 and i already have an extra bb and fitting chainring. could go onnomnom but dont want to really.
will also fit well in the dropouts with 2mm more tucked, and was planning to change the 33mm challenges out for black 30mm schwalbe g-ones anyway. this is very related to the length of time require till i p*ncture again on these tyres. very pwetty though.have a slr flow with cutout waiting at mums to be picked up when i go back 'ome next week

Yo guys. I currently have a Dolan Pre Cursa, a Cinelli Mash Bolt 2.0, and I'm soon to get my hands on a Planet X Pro Carbon Track. I want to start racing, and would rather keep my Cinelli as my everyday bike.
So, between the Planet X, and the Dolan, which should I race on? I know that the Planet X is lighter, and more aero, but it also flexes loads, from what I've seen. Would I just be better building my Dolan up nicely for races?
-
• #3696
Sell the Planet-X, build the Dolan up with a de-blinged street spec, and spec-out the Cinelli as your fair weather/pose/race bike.
EDIT brake hole and bottle bosses on the Bolt could be useful riding to and from HHV. -
• #3697
I honestly thought this would look terrible but it's not, and adds so much functionality to the frame
-
• #3699
Dolan over Planet X every time, while aero is important, I don't think you need to stress over it on the track, unless you're a professional.
You want something you won't cry when you crash it.
"When".

I agree - I think my aero wheels will be effective enough. 4 spoke front and a disc on the rear. I just wondered which frame would be nicer to race on. Also, my Dolan has been through enough scrapes and scratches - I'm not afraid to crash it, at all. Looks like I'll stick to the Dolan.
I've been making a few tweaks, I think it's about fettled - well when I get round to finding a plain black front rim. Hmmm I could also maybe fancy a chunkier fork, can you drill a Alpina Wing fork? :-P LOL
I tell you what though riding fixed on the road is a different kettle of fish. I start to feel a bit crampy at about 45mins. I do a lot of fixed riding but usually sprint efforts. On the road you get little rests on the corners, downhill, etc. Still I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually :)
