Could try the hot soapy water trick to "revive" the rubber.

Bit spooked about the idea of sending it anywhere in the post. I'm convinced that rough treatment between houses has caused it to come loose and now it's just sitting in the corner looking at me accusingly.

Do you remove the belt from the unit first or just plonk the whole lot in?

Hi, once in motion it shouldn't require much grip. As long as it's not super stretched, etc... There is so much more to tuning the sound., The belt is probably lowest on the list.. The suspension needs to be of the right bounce and dead level. The tonearm vertical tracking alignment, tracking force, azimuth... What's the tonearm and cartridge? The tonearm cable mustn't snag. Then the cartridge mass has to match tonearm mass. Then the impedance of the cartridge matched to the input transformer/phono stage...

That's a good point actually, maybe something is rubbing + causing it to drag a bit every revolution.
I'll look into this tonight, after dunking it in the sink.

Erm. I'd remove it personally.

Badum-tish.
What's actually wrong with the sound? The cart is probably first step. Got a grado and ortofon on mine, they sound drastically different. -

On every rotation is sounds flat, like the speed has slowed.
-
• #662
If it's slow, that's probably the psu. Maybe check the bearing? Should be well oiled and clean.
-
• #663
Exactly how robust are these things? What's the chances of me trying to check the bearing and accidentally causing irreparable damage? Considering I don't exactly have the most graceful of hands.

If you want the best advice to bring the old bird back to it's former glory,
Peter Swain (Cymbiosis) and Peter Jenkins (Infidelity), not cheap but are the best around, please don't butcher if you have unforgiving hands, LP 12's fetch good money. -

Cr Developments Orpheus, rare British made amp from around 2002. Solid brass knobs with 22c gold plating, dual mono, weighs 13kg, class AB design putting out 150wpc, this is a serious amp! £250, which is a bargain for what you get.
Korg dw6000 has 3/4 dead keys but otherwise fully working, capable of some funky sounds. £160

I want those ul6! Or possibly the ls7 above... Which would you recommend of the two?
Billy Vee in Lewisham does (or at least used to) do Linn.
I bought stuff from them but fit own any Linn equipment so can't really comment, Dazaa may recommend a better address...
