Original Railmaster is £26,000, 2017 Railmaster is £3,600.
If you buy a vintage watch it'll cost you around £0 to own.*
If you buy a new one it'll cost you the price that it depreciates. Assuming that over 5 years an Omega will lose about half its value that's about £1 per day to own.
Obviously things are a bit different once you adjust for inflation but even then you shouldn't lose money. Actually low inflation rates are one of the reasons that prices for vintage watches are high right now.

Inflation is rising at the moment and will get a lot higher over the next couple of years as we sink deeper into recession- this means I should wait before purchasing a vintage watch I imagine?

IDK man, buy what you love. A watch isn't an investment grade asset as there's too much volatility. I just think it's a bit reductive to say that a vintage railmaster costs a lot (and a new one doesn't) because the cost of owning a vintage watch (if you can afford to tie up the capital) is probably negative.

Hour hand is very do not want.

I love mine. Rotor is a bit noisy but that's pretty much the only fault I can find with it.

Still can't find a nice automatic diver in my budget (~1% the cost of the majority of watches you're posting)

Very no indeed

They've totally fucked this. The hour hand is meant to be of the same width as the minute hand. And everything else about the watch just isn't very nice, including the massive logo. Not sure why they didn't just recreate the original, given that they'll have the blueprints:

So much win and so much fail all in one watch!
@Stonehedge - cheers. Always liked them, and there's one on ebay at the moment. I guess my only concern is the size. Some opinions say it wears quite large.
Also on the GMT chat. I've found the watch I'm after, which unfortunately is no longer available.
SPEEDBIRD GMT - PRS-22GMTSet up some ebay searches, so I might have some luck at some point.
