I think Movistar's goal was for him to win the Giro, then he could go to the Tour with the pressure off. Dumoulin put a spanner in the works of that one though.
They also had the Valverde card to play too, so if Quintana was cooked, he could support Valverde. Unfortunately that plan lasted less than 11 kms.

Not really one to remember for Movistar was it?

Not sure whether the team or rider is to blame
Team - he's the employee, they should be making the decisions.

Nope. You can see why they want Landa. If you're targeting all three GTs each season, having three potential leaders gives you more options.

If you're going to throw a bag of piss at me, at least make sure you've had a lot to drink the night before or make it Fosters. No, wait, scratch that, I'd rather the urine.

I watched a Paris-Roubaix doco on the weekend where the interviewed Lance and not riding PR was his big regret.
LOL.

Great thanks for the info

Yeah, I was actually getting excited for the French.

At least until the booing...

Froome riding PR. We all know what happened in the Tour when there was cobbles.
I was thinking Lombardy. Or Ardennes.

No one cares about those :P
Flanders, PR or GTFO >>
:)

GTFO? I didn't see that one on the calendar

I really enjoy San Remo now. I think it's such a great race. And this years edition was incredible.

I did actually have others listed but took them out because I couldn't remember the name of Amstel Gold :)

Actually I do like San Remo but I wonder if that's just because there's been nothing interesting on TV for the last 6 months? :)

Giro!? Oh you mean before it.
Yes maybe. Bu the build up to the poggio is always great.

cyclocross! never a dull weekend from October > February

• #4072
I actually started watching some 'cross. I'm not sure if Eurosport ever broadcast it before this year. It's great to watch, in fast forward, until someone crashes at which point I watch instant replays of it :)

Classics, or Monuments? Strade-Bianchi and MSR are great, and I love ALL of the cobbles, even Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. L-B-L is a bit of a snooze-fest but the rest of the Ardennes was good this year anyway. Il Lombardia is usually abysmal weather which makes for some balls-out racing too. San Sebastian also deserves a mention.

ah yes Strade Bianche, that one is exciting too, as Omloop because it's the first on Flemish ground in the earliest of spring... And Gent-Wevelgem when there's a storm. I watch the others too of course but they really only get interesting to me in the final few km's - from the run-up to Poggio, Cauberg, on the Rue de St Nicolas, snoozefest until Mur de Huy, Jaizkibel, etc.

All the spring classics are improved by a storm. The weather was far too benign in 2017.
It was a huge mistake to take Quintana to the Tour, just pointless him being there as the fourth consecutive GT he's ridden. Not sure whether the team or rider is to blame but to beat Froome and Sky we need riders like him in top nick.
