  • What happened to Turbo Cottons?

    Vittoria launched a faster tyre.

  • I use ViewSpeed. They can twist out of dropouts but my wheels have never fallen off so they do their job.

  • Yeah, for the short stuff.

  • I broke most of the Willesden club records on them. I can't tell any difference between them and any other fastish tyre but the times don't lie. Handling was fine but A-road TTing is hardly testing for cornering.

  • Money saving: I'll start racing again when they release the next iteration :)

  • I'm not saying they are slow, just that to me they don't feel as fast of confidence inspiring as the speed corsas. I should add that I did Mallorca 70.3 with the specialized turbo cottons and mountain descents in heavy rain was definitely too much for them, so perhaps I pushed them a bit harder than you're average tter, but there were times I was just sliding rather than slowing down!

    What happens to you today @umop3pisdn mechanical or just had enough of the a31?!

    Need to get more than one 50 and 100 in per season, although my legs felt fine throughout I never really had the confidence to push as hard as I know I can, didn't really do the time I wanted.

  • Did you also ride the Vittorias down wet mountain descents? I've slid down steep stuff on almost every tyre - sometimes there's just no grip and it doesn't matter what you're running.

  • Chasing a time and the legs weren't there - one race too many.

    Wasn't a particularly fast day today I think.

  • Does anyone have one of these garmin mounts I could borrow?

  • fair enough, yeah, I didn't think it was that fast but Pete Harrison still did a 1:39, was hoping that the speed would increase for the second half but the road was ridiculously quiet and it didn't seem to get much warmer over the course of the morning.

    was going well for the first half but bottled it/died, lost 20 watts for the second half, and got caught by someone id overtaken just after the start, which is always embarrassing! the combo of wind and losing my chain 3 times meant I found it really hard to get into any kind of rhythm, need to sort out a chain catcher, as I don't think the money/watts saved for not having a derailleur is worth it!

    Duggelby is riding so we could well see 12hr Comp Record and a record BAR unless he falls apart.

  • Well, Panzerwagon uses a chain catcher so I reckon it's ok.

  • my number one pic as helper was getting too excited by the idea of riding himself, so was going to be too much of a logistical challenge, will give it a crack next year.

    Aim for the rest of the season is a 19, a decent ride at the national 25 if I get in and a secondary goal of improving my 100 time so I definitely get into the ECCA event next year for a good crack at a BBAR certificate.

    I have no desire to ride in the wrong gear all the time @mdcc_tester..

    Soon, I reckon. Keep plugging away at the a3crg events. Annoying I've got a family thing on the day of the UTAG 10, so I'm hoping the Paceline event a couple of weeks later will have reasonable conditions - Hoping for a mid-20 myself.

  • It's a cracking course, so sure you'll do it, and based on previous Septembers it should be super fast weather conditions.

    Keeping my fingers crossed the weather forecast improves for this Wednesday, if I can avoid a mechanical then I at least have a chance!

  • I plan to, was just cming here to see if you'd had any success using a sacrificial front mech, I think ive got one that's conveniently seized up so presuming I can move it enough to put it in the outer chainring position it should work treat, if not i'll eed to find something to keep it pushed outwards...

    my mechanical last week was not doing my rear tight enough and pulling it in the dropout, causing my rear wheel to slightly rub for the run from the roundabout to the finish, it wasn't enough to feel in the heat of the moment but I couldn't understand why I was 100m from my minute man at the roundabout and was still 100m from him 3 miles later, once I slowed after finish it was immediately noticeable!

  • I've got a guy building a chainguide but for now I'm just using an old Ultegra FD locked off with limit screws. I think I got it off Scherrit but LBS might be able to help. I have two Campag FDs but I think the limit screws might been missing. You're welcome to them - you could probably bodge something with a short piece of cable to hold it out where it needs to be.

    I've pulled a wheel before, in Wales, in a 100mi or 12hr I forget. I blame Scherrit. Which is odd because he always does them waaay tighter than I do. Anyway we joke about it but he's not allowed to touch my skewers (ooh nurse).
