  • True. Both the Omega and the Tudor depreciate more than the Rolex after purchase.

  • I know it's legit but the zpeedy just sits horribly on that strap.

    +1 to the bi sub.

  • Sub

  • I don't know, looks pretty nice to me. Obviously need to try one on.

  • Looks a bit like an ETA. I can't find the exact model, but this is close (has an offset power reserve indicator):

    http://www.eta.ch/en/our-products/mechanical-movements/mecaline-specialities/eta-mecaline-specialities-2897

Looks to be a snap-on back. Nothing wrong with that, but screw-on is better.

    Hard to value.

  • I always found the cases on these quite thick. Ok if you have decent wrists which I don't. Rose gold is personal preference, but it reminds me of chavvy Michael Kors (or whatever they're called) / Argos watches.

  • It would be the Speedy for me too - I think they look nice & chunky on that bracelet.

The main reason though would be the black date wheel - white date wheels against a black dial on anything but a budget watch just look awful to me.

  • I get what u r Sayin but...

The white date completes the snowflake.

  • Black and White normally improves photos, but that still looks horrific.

  • I assume UK distributors would be paying the tax, it's more the faff (well, my laziness). Tempted by the green one though, probably cost the same in sterling as dollars I guess.

Seems to be a distinct lack of pictures of aged brass ones online though.

  • So much this.

On the other hand, there's a 'so wrong it's right' aspect to bimetallics. They're the Italdisco of watches.

  • It usually takes about 4 days for a Helson to arrive although my last one arrived at my front door 26 hours after I ordered it...nice one Fedex!

  • From the auction site...

  • Cheers @pdlouche I only searched for shark diver 42 on there so I don't think that came up.

@Stonehedge No slip to say it had been held at customs and phoning up to pay and all that kind of jazz?

  • Yea I think I just searched Helson, and always try to fight against ebay's ridiculous compartmentalisation of search results. Think it was a US listing.

Edit: if it's parcelforce it takes an extra week or so to get the slip. Years ago I'd just call up to check, but not sure you can speak to real people any more. Once, the slip turned up a month later, to the wrong house on the street.

  • No, fedex have always delivered the parcel and invoiced separately for me.

  • My 2p, bi-colour aside I'm not 100% on any of those... but the Tudor looks the best.

    1. best case shape and bracelet interface
    2. brushed and matt looks classier, and keeps it simple when you've already got a lot going on with the two metals.

Not quite sure what the appeal of the Omega is. On a black leather strap + rose buckle it could work.

  • I have to agree, I think the Tudor looks best.

I had a long conversation with @coppiThat about this today. You have to go with what you like most although the depreciation of the Tudor and the Omega does rattle me a bit.

The Speedy Mk2 would cost me about £8k but you can buy a 6 month old one for about £5,5k. That's not cool. The Tudor hasn't been sold long enough to know how it will perform price wise. At least when buying a sub you know its not going to ship a few grand in the first year.

The sub is unarguably the most complete watch but the Tudor really appeals to me. I also have a soft spot for a speedy Mk2 but I think I prefer it in steel.

  • You're buying it to wear, so it doesn't make sense to get too tied down on value. I can be a bit old fashioned in some of my views, so precious metal ≠ sports watch.

Although bi-metal isn't my thing I can get behind an OP no-date:

  • You say that like it's a bad thing...

  • I said the same thing to Gerald this morning.

  • I had a long conversation with @coppiThat about this today.

Yeah that was a lovely conversation. I think the sub can be as gaudy or as beautiful as you make it. If you're wearing it oversized like a chunky gold bracelet that at the slightest movement drops to the joint between your arm and your hand (shouting look at me) then yeah a sheepskin and car front might complete the look.
(Accept this is an all gold datejust on a president bracelet) tell me what's wrong with or undignified about how it's being worn in the below picture. We all have reference points I think. When you hear that piece of music do you hear the William Tell overture or do you see in your minds eye a cowboy on a white horse.

  • If I was after a Speedmaster Mk2, I think I'd just get an original one for £1k ish and then save that other £7k for something else. But that's me, and this is all about personally preference I suppose.
