I can't see how it is user error unless there is some kind of technique for getting the sealant to seal a small hole in the tyre.
In this case, if I were riding tubes I would have changed the tube straight away, and the back of my bike would not have been covered with goop. As far as I can see, I would have been better off. That's assuming there was just one puncture.
At some point I will take the tyre off and have a good look for holes. Maybe. Or I might just carry on riding with a tube in it.
