They are talking shit - mobile phone transmissions are not in the 2.4 GHz band. Most protocols in the 2.4 GHz band implement frequency hopping, to precisely avoid interference. You can get it, but normally you'd need to be in an area with high volumes of transmitters, which you're very unlikely to encounter on a bike ride.
