@Cazakstan YoYos Food World is worth checking out too, and the brunch at Viasko is off the fucking chain!

Vegan cashew cheese update: turns out the cultures contain milk/dairy so we're going to try and bodge something using coconut yog instead.
I think some more background reading would have been beneficial, but it's not my idea so I'm staying out of it as much as possible.

Vegan BBQ recipes?
Not interested in veg skewers, interested in things that taste rad when nearly cremated and retain their structural integrity, unlike most of the burger recipes I've tried so far. -
• #3932
Hmm, best I've eaten in this regard was probably a "lumberjack steak"-style seitan thing.
No recipe, sorry.. but just go for it, get vital wheat gluten / seitan fix, and add spices you like.. -
• #3933
Yeah that's what I figured, haven't made big seitan pieces so far but figured it's the way to go. I assume seitan cooks on the bbq well enough?

Some of these might work?

seitan cooks on the bbq well enough?
I think I'd cook it in vegetable stock first, have not BBQ'd seitan yet though..

Note this seitan recipe from the link I just posted:

Did someone post an olive and something and something recipe for vegan not sausage rolls a couple of months ago? I made them at the time - great. Can't remember what else was in them.

East London Vegans. Where's good to eat in Walthamstow or Hackney or nearby? I'm coming to London for a wedding this weekend and I hear Vegan is a thing around those parts.

if you're stopping in walthamstow saturday brunch at the hornbeam is nice...!
...depending on how it fits in with your wedding plans.

Ah yes I think that's been mentioned on this thread before. It's a Saturday wedding in Hackney so I'll check what time.

Temple of Seitan is a must, I could happily live on that shit.
Yardsale delivers tasty vegan pizza in Walthamstow.
Dukes Head did me a vegan version of one of their veggie burgers. -
• #3942
Thanks. That sounds like the sort of vegan junk my kids will like.
Does Temple of Seitan require waiting in line? They're not into that.
Also I can't see any mention of vegan on the Yardsale pizza website. Is it off menu? -
• #3943
On Yardsales website you select add/remove toppings and swap out the mozerella for vegan cheese in the options. Or just ask for vegan pizza if you're in there.
Liz rides home past Temple every day, sometimes rammed, sometimes empty... -

Great. Thanks for the help. My children will be very happy with either of these, might try for both.

Vegan cashew cheese update: turns out the cultures contain milk/dairy so we're going to try and bodge something using coconut yog instead.
This sort of worked but there was too much coconut oil and it was pretty much inedible. Plans for a second batch are on hold, recovering the bedding in the van instead.

Hello everyone. I have had a crisis of conscience which started from an environmental perspective, but has now extended to thinking about it from an animal welfare perspective. In any case, I seem to have found myself as a Vegan (admittedly i do eat some fish like mussels)
This is a pretty big move for me, my main hobby up until now is meat curing and making salami. I actually still have a 2kg iberico pork shoulder curing in my dedicated curing fridge which i was very excited about and now just makes me worried about what i`m going to invest all my spare time in!
Anyway, does anyone have any good vegan cookbook recommendations? I love cooking, i would like to still love cooking, i`m just so programmed to think about cooking the meat and building it from there.

Good news - we're that little bit closer to vegan halloumi. Of course, it'll really be as disappointing as all other vegan cheese, but let's not give up hope.

In other news, I've been in Iraq for six days now, and have not yet had a single meal (breakfast excluded) that isn't a falafel wrap. There is literally nothing else available. And it's mediocre falafel too. Not tempted to lapse, but by god it's getting boring...

What's for breakfast, then?

Bread/jam, fruit and, weirdly, lentil soup.

I've never been further east than Antalya in Turkey,
so wondered what you were being offered.
This lentil soup, (which is ubiquitous in Turkey, but seldom if ever for breakfast),
no lumps of indeterminate meat at the bottom for 'flavour'?
Fruit; figs & watermelon?
Edited the post with a link to the places we went last time we were there.
There's also a cafe that does great waffles near the market hall but I can't remember the name. I'll add it if I find it.
