Telecaster basses or OG P-basses, whatever they're called, are beautiful... I played a very heavy one once, put me off...
I'd actually recommend a Dano Longhorn, short scale, records really well and sounds great through a fuzz box... Made of cardboard tho', so probably not a great touring rig...
