That's disappointing - wonder what Mavic is up to.
Sounds like it could just be delayed.

Selling complete systems, not components. That way, they get the profit on the hubs, spokes and tyres too, not just the rims.

Odd though, as the hand built / hobby build market is never going to cannibalise sales of wheelsets βΒ we'll just go elsewhere.

And they won't care. There's much more money to be made from selling either aftermarket or OEM wheels than there is from trying to compete with Chinese extrusion benders.

Hmm, unsure. I think it's a cop out to fall back on corporate cynicism β the market might only produce small margins for them thanks to far east running down prices, but it's still valuable for them to cater to the market in terms of both business and brand. Industry interests aside, far east factories aren't a new market force, and consumers buying direct from the East are understandably quite niche.

It really isn't. Hand builds are a small niche, OEM rims for factory assembled wheels with 3rd party hubs and spokes is a ruthlessly competitive business, and the only way your brand gets mentioned either way is when something breaks in a system over which you have no control and people blame the rims. I would not be surprised to see Mavic leave the loose rim business completely within a decade, because the OEM end has no margin and boutique end has no volume.

They have Enve for boutique

I think it's pronounced "on-vay"

Admittedly probably more of a brand, than business interest, but hey β everyone has their opinion β which coincidentally is 90% of brand building.

The "on" is silent

Need to replace my rear track wheel (planet x rim and hub) on the commuter. A cyclist went into the back of me and the impact ripped out 4 spokes and cracked the rim.
Whats recommend for around Β£75? Looking for:
- Black fixed hub (prefer Formula copies for simple bearing replacement)
- Black rim around 30mm depth (wide rim preferred)
- Black spokes
Halo aerorage?

I've just snapped a spoke on the rear of my hed Ardennes and it's gone well out of true. I'd get it replaced but the rims are pretty worn anyway. Suggestions for decent affordable rim replacements?
Alternatively, should I just get a cheap set of wheels like aksiums or something to commute on? Would that work out cheaper than 2 rims, spokes and build? -

Been looking at cheap wheels and the Fulcrum 5s look like the best value of any road wheel.
Wide, light, cheap.

Yeah but those are nearly 500g, this was a 14xxg wheelset :(

I'm about to have a set of Open Pro / Ambrosio (novatec) part worn wheels going spare if they'd appeal?
10 speed, 32/32, good condition, 7,000 km on them.
-
• #7795
Mine came out in the 1400g region.
-
• #7796
Could be good for the commuter. I haven't budgeted for needing to buy wheels so depends on how much
-
• #7797
Well they don't owe me much. They've not been used for commuting so better condition than you might expect for the mileage.
How about Β£90 including a good set of Conti GP4k?
-
• #7798
I'll have to get back to you. It's a fair chunk of my monthly. Might have to just get a beater rear wheel until I can replace the set. Cheers

7,000 km on them.
partly worn you says??
I was searching the same thing yesterday. They'll need to be pretty bloody good at that price...
EDIT: just read the WW link, and new page fail.
