  • "i shat on your tomatoes, that is all."

  • awwwwwww poor puss cat, get well soon

  • It is way to hot to be a cat apparently. Ours can't be arsed to eat. She's dug a hole in the dirt under a bay tree where she now spends much of the day. Apart from that she just lolls about stretched out on our wooden floor. Came in at 4am wanting some attention as that's the only time of day where she can think about anything at all. Poor sod.

  • she might enjoy a shave?

  • Fleur seems hot and bothered too. We've got the fan on to keep the air moving but she's pretty scared of the noise so not chilling near it.
Have made some steps up to and out of the bath tub in case that's cooler.

keeping cats cool - frozen peas under a towel in a box, frozen bottle of water in cat bed?

  • ..from the meme thread..

  • Fleas are driving me nuts. Please advice.

I vacuumed the house, sprayed everything except one room, where the cat was. aired the house out, put cat somewhere else, sprayed last room. Did that 3 times in the last 2 weeks, using another brand of flea spray each time, from the cheap stuff to the expensive stuff. Takes 4 bottles each time to spray my house. I already spend 146 euro's / 129 pounds on spray bottles, 45 euro's / 40 pounds on an anti flea necklace, 25 euro's / 22 pounds on the activyl.

I got Activyl neck drops from the vet. They say stronghold doesn't work well anymore. They got resistant here. They told me to give it on monday, which I did. It's the 100mg for smaller cats, given about a week and a half after the first neck drops I gave her. My computer room seems to be flea free, but last night, my flea catchers (bowl of water with soap and a candle), caught 12 fleas in the kitchen and 5 in my bedroom. Big ones.

I brush her daily, I find at least 5 live ones (really alive) on her every day. I find dead fleas all around the house, but sometimes find live ones. I found one in my beard an hour ago. It's completely driving me nuts. I got red bumps all over my body.

I got an offer for 200 euro's / 176 pounds from renttokill, to spray my house, but no warranty. They might have to come back again after that. Maybe that is the answer? I don't know anymore.

I spend about a week at my parents house just to get some sleep, just going home every day to brush my cat and feed her. I can't take it anymore. It's driving me literally insane. I'm now sleeping on an air mattress in my computer room.

I hope someone can tell me what to do. I can't live like this. I really need help. I'm going to try to sleep now. Every suggestion is welcome.

  • I was in a similar position last year after moving into a new place. The previous tenant neglected their cat and the heat brought fleas out of the carpet in force (unfortunately onto our cat and us).

I did all the over the counter stuff, spent about the same as you, did the flea catchers and everything and it was doing nothing. I went with a local pest-control in the end who did the whole house for £90. He sprayed all the floors and we had to leave whatever powder it left down for a fortnight before we could clean/hoover, but it pretty much killed every single bug that had the misfortune to be in the house at the time. Utterly scorched-earth, and no problems since. He said to me that a lot of the over the counter ones act mostly as irritants to fleas rather than killing them, and they tend to develop a resistance after continued use anyway, so cutting straight to the professional stuff you need to be licensed to use is the way to go.

As for the cat; we brushed her and used a combination of one-spot fur treatment and anti-flea tablets (I can't remember the brand, sorry), and that certainly seemed to do the trick especially after the visit from the pest-control.

    Also: obligatory cat picture.

  • I will get some other quotes. This might be the best thing. I barely slept last night, again. I'm considering getting her trimmed again. I can't go all the way through with a brush. Her fur is too thick for that.

  • ah sh*t - the cattery we use, and will be using next week for 3 weeks, has changed all its staff this week, the nice lady who played with, talked to and posted up facebook pics of cats has been "let go" no replacement, owners taking "more control" and have immediatley cut the opening hours to just 1 hour in am/pm-- dammit it doesnt look good...........

  • Found a company that sprays the entire house for 100 euro's / 87 pounds. They are coming on saturday. I really hope it will work.
