  • Depends on the riding you're going to do. Generally stiffer sole on road shoes which is a lot more comfortable over longer distances, and a larger contact area between pedal-cleat-shoe which again aids comfort. And you can learn to not walk to badly in SPD-SL, I used to run up stairs in mine.

    But mtb is good for other uses

    Mainly long distances. For commuting I still have normal pedals with toe clips or my beater.
    So now I'm at the beginning of decision making again.
