cats + pills = chaos............
glad to hear she is on the mend, one of our past-cats had a bite on the neck that got pretty nasty and had to stay in the vets IIRC.

What's crazy is that deer will hear you fart 60 meters away and will run off. Mountain lions are pretty much ninjas.

hmmm my cat only goes after birds that have hit the window - just how they (d)evolved from these things amazes me sometimes.

They didn't exactly devolve, in the way we deliberately messed-up dogs... My understanding is that domestic cats are derived from small wild cats that evolved in areas where their size gave them an advantage. But essentially, they are still wild animals.
Plenty of places that have big cats also have smaller ones in the same habitat that just live off different stuff; Bobcats, Lynx, Ocelots and mountain lions in Canada/US, and everything from a Lion to a Serval in Afrca. India has a bunch of cats – Tigers and a few Leopard variants.

any advice on renting with cats? I have two indoor cats, 8 years old now and very settled - been in current place 11 years and although the landlord didn't know about them, I don't think he cared as he got a good tenant who paid on time every month. I'm moving at the end of the month and most rental adverts via the agencies say no pets - is it a case of actually asking upfront, or do you guys personally just take the risk and say nothing? cheers

I was honest with my landlord, he just requested that I pay an additional deposit to cover any damage that the cat may cause although he is a reasonable person, unlike some landlords.
Maybe it is worth getting something in writing from your current landlord to say that you are trustworthy and that the cats caused no problems and offer to pay an additional deposit with the new landlord. This all depends on how reasonable and understanding they are though. Personally I wouldn't want to risk not telling them. -

good advice, many thanks!

There's often a clause added that you're required to pay for a deep clean at the end of the the tenancy.

Just bring cats and don't tell them.

Totally depends on your landlord and relationship with them. I was in my last place 6 years or so. Asked before we got cats and he just fobbed us off with an "I'll think about it response" and never came back to us. Other than that our relationship was good. We went ahead and got cats without telling him. I even put a cat flap in the back door. When we moved out he was totally fine with it as he was either going to sell or refurbish anyway. I had in the back of my mind an amount of the deposit that we wouldn't see again but it never came to it.

A new neighbour in this block has a cat and its kept inside all day.
Cats/pets are not allowed.
I don't mind but he lets it out briefly in the morning and at night for a shit in the communal 'gardens'.
Someone has complained (not me). -

I would just ask, extra deposit, no probs. are renting furnished or unfurnished ? This is key difference as cats kill furniture esp nice sofas.

I own my place now but have no idea where our cats shit. We've not had a litter tray for over a year. They're not shitting in my garden or house, I'm not about to ask our neighbours if they have unexplained turds in theirs. I have told our immediate neighbours that if they are ever a nuisance, I am happy for them to turn the hose on the little fuckers.

I need some help. I don't know what to do.
Two weeks ago, I went on a weekend trip. Camp site, tents etc. When I came back, set up my tent in the living room so it could dry. Last weekend, I saw something tiny next to my cat. Some bug. Didn't think much off it. Just one. It was a tiny flea (didn't knew back then). On monday it got worse, figured out it was fleas. Got this "Bob Martin Clear Spot On" anti flea formula for cats (no pet shop in this town, that was available at the supermarket). I cleaned my entire house front to back several times, vacuumed everything. Now everything is covered in a layer of salt (read online that that's very good because it dries them out and they die. My cat is covered in huge black fleas. I just checked, I saw more than 5 walking over her shoulders and I have no idea what's inside her thick fur.
I have never seen those things before. She never had them, ever. What am I supposed to do now? I'm going insane, my cat is going insane. Lucky for me she stays downstairs now, I haven't seen one upstairs yet.
I hope someone can advice.

Go to your vet as soon as possible!!!
Google "Bob Martin Spot On". Its known to not work and make pets seriously ill!!
Get a flea or nit comb and use it every morning and night. Capture and kill any fleas by putting them in water with washing up liquid in.
@anthonyj Yes, on antibiotics, which was fun this morning trying to get her to swallow the pill. She seemed a bit spooked yesterday evening and night as expected - keeping very close to us on the sofa, sitting on our laps and wanted to sleep on our bed, which is unusual for her. Was fine this morning though, probably pissed off with the clumsy pill administration, and is currently playing with her sister in the garden, doing forward rolls over each other. Has to go back to the vets tomorrow for check up, bite marks look a lot better already.
