I've actually found keynote to be unstable and random thing will make it hang.
Stick to Pp if that's what you know but it can get slow. Especially with imported graphics and excel things like worksheets or charts generated by other ms apps.
I forgot about the size requirements but I really think MBP is better long term.
Out of interest, have you considered any windows laptops? Or even a surface pro?
