Portable air conditioning units. Anyone ever used a small one for home for one room? If so any recommendations and what sort of thing I should I look out for?

I bought one last year. It does the trick but I bought it specifically for the bedroom (converted loft) and though it cooled it down it was too noisy to sleep through. For the rest of the house it would be fine.
