does anyone spray something in the inside of their steel frames before building up?
surly recommends JP Weigle Frame Saver (doesn't seem to be available in the UK)

I use a linseed oil based spray from my local hardware store. I'm not located in the UK but they should be easily available there too.

Boeshield T9 is available in the UK (e.g. http://www.marinechandlery.com/boeshield-t-9-corrosion-protection-and-waterproof-lubrication-aerosol), and plenty of people swear by it.

Looking so good, I should probably build a fixed bike again.

Looking for some frame recommendations. Am I in the right place here?
Since my Mielec fixed gear gets a little boring...
Looking for:
- Steel Frame
- Steel or Carbon straight bladed fork
- 28" with ability to mount big tyres
- 135mm rear end, SS/IGH compatible
- disc brakes
- some possibility to go fixed
Bikes I have looked at:
- Cotic Roadrat
- Omnium CXC
- Genesis Day-One
all quite nice, but none of them screams "buy me"
- Steel Frame

(Add beer and) That sounds like a solid plan. I bet that beauty just rolls over eeeeverything. Just point it downhill and let 'er rip.

Soma wolverine with the new thru-axle forks they do?

I've got a day one nexus I use as a winter/wet commute/work horse - I'm really tempted to take off guards, put carbon forks on and install single speed but then I wouldn't have a wet weather bike. I reckon it would be pretty fun in that format, don't rule it out. The black SS model is lovely IRL too.

Looks like someone left it in the attic and forgot about it. Mint! Is it original spec?

Why would you choose to go touring on the GT over this?

• #114994
I've got a Roadrat. It's super versatile and great unloaded. Fairly relaxed geo makes it feel comfortable off-road. Can get a bit noodly under load, especially with panniers. If you're not looking for a tourer, I'd highly recommend it.

I'm going with my other half, the pace will be pretty steady, we plan on spending days exploring cities / towns by bike after setting up at a camp site. I would worry more about leaving the CDF locked up around town and it's much easier to ride the GT at a slower pace, plus it's really nice to ride even loaded. I've done some big trips on the CDF in the past, don't worry.

Thanks all!
@MisterMikkel That Bombtrack looks nice, except for the fork.
The Nicasio SS fits the bill perfectly. But Marin don't have it on their site anymore. Perhaps a discontinued model? Will have to find out more.@pascalo They do through Axle forks? Had ruled out the Wolverine because of the forks. Any info / pics on them? Can't seem to find them on their website.
edit: Found it. Damn, that looks good. expensive though....@TM alright, I'll keep that in mind.
@Ptown not looking for a tourer, just an all-around fun bike for the City. Roadrat sounds good.
Hmh. Time to compare some specs it seems...

I was looking for similar with my latest build (https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/302280/), ended up with a Roadrat but my heart wanted an All City Nature Boy.

Not worried at all, I'm sure you'll have a blast regardless of which bike you take. I feel you on the whole lock up thing, wanting to enjoy new places and having to constantly worry about your bike getting stolen certainly doesn't mix well.
uhh, very jelly too. Favourite forum bike me thinks.
