If it's a front wheel take a bolt out of each rear wheel, if it's a rear wheel take a single bolt out of the other rear wheel. Go round and tighten them all before moving off.

Take one from one of the wheels with 5 so you have two wheels with 4 nuts. Make sure all of the other nuts are tight (on all wheels).
Two wheels with 4 nuts is better than three with 5 and one with 3.

Well depending on if it was them that had the wheels on and off last it could be their problem too!
I managed to limp to a VW dealership and buy 2 bolts and fit them, I'm guessing they weren't tight and have just rattled out while driving
Annoyingly one was the locking nut so I'll have to buy a full set at over £70 to replace that one

This is what i did before driving away - I had my impact gun in the boot fortunately so I nicked one from a rear so both rears had 4 and then double checked all the others, everything else was FT.
Will check with the torque wrench later.
Managed to buy 2 wheel nuts from a larger Lookers VW dealership in Walton at just over a tenner

Lols, just had the call from the garage, estimated ~£1700 repair bill for various new front-end bits and air suspension bags.

Cry/laughing.
Nah it's ok, I kindof expected this. Thought the MOT from the dealer looked a bit mates-rates.

Sold my landy to buy a real camper van, phoned my insurance up and they said no :(
Well gutted.

I picked up the first invoice for the Minor Traveller restoration yesterday. It's for about half what the car will be worth once it's finished, and the bodywork isn't finished yet, let alone painted. Hey ho.

It was more the lack of advisories (when there's been one for a few previous years about a towbar error) and test centre address from the town the salesman told us he drives in from, which seemed off. Work was done after last year's MOT but from things the garage have told me today, they were either done on the cheap or not actually done. Current MOT has missed/ignored them for definite.
Looking more like £2200 now! -

Official BMW front discs are a cool £nearly500, which is nice. The current unofficial ones (new last year) have warped after very few miles.
I've gone full Dammit and am comforting myself with the fact if I spec'd out a new one it would be at least £50k. -

Facelift E61 525i - PMW in Chelmsford. I'm hoping it's just the airbags and compressor isn't gone as well... Which will apparently be another 800.

PMW
Great name. Sounds a bit like BMW.
Is the bloke who owns it called Paul or Pete?
-
• #34843
Peter! They seem fairly legit.

I think it's just the touring - self levelling.

I can't afford any burgers now :(

How much are they in germany? Merc parts are peanuts over there, I'd imagine the same for bmw stuff?
-
• #34847
Peanuts denominated in Euro are still £much to us poor inmates of the good prison-hulk Britannia

Ha!
