Seems about right. I stay well clear of any vehicle around here with that "Powered by fairy dust" logo on it. They may be powered by fairy dust, but in my experience they are driven by homicidal maniacs.

after 2 punctures, a ruined tyre, 3 miles of walking and a finally a boris bike journey for the last 1/3 of my commute the fucking cherry on the top of the shit gateau that was this morning was the fuckknuckle cabtwunt who decided that rather than let me wait for more than 2 seconds for a gap to pull out from london wall onto the museum of london roundabout he would try to overtake me and pull out alongside by forcing his way past on my right in to a gap where the only way to turn into the roundabout would involve immediately turning left straight into me.
I (quite rightly) enquired what exactly the fuck he thought he was doing only to be told I was a fucking idiot and I need to pull out, into the literal stream of traffic in which there had not been a single gap.
I politely told him that for a professional driver he must be a bit of a dumb cunt because he didnt seem to grasp the concept of roundabouts and despite his protestations and our continued conversation there still had not been a single gap into which I could have pulled out with forcing oncoming traffic to have to brake to avoid hitting me. I then reiterated that he was a stupid cunt and jumped into the first gap. holding my line to prevent him passing me around the roundabout. so instead he sat with his engine in the red a foot away from my rear wheel while I rode directly behind the minicab 4 feet in front of me up until he turned off towards smithfields.
the stupid prick didn't even have a fare on board but couldn't wait 5 seconds at a fucking roundabout.
his wing mirror was within arms reach. given my morning to that point I think i did well not trying to confiscate it.
diagram for the luls.

Deployed a strategic car punch this morning.
Approaching the narrow Warburton Bridge, Trafford Park southbound. There's a slower cyclist about 10m in front of me. Two cars overtake me, the second is tailgating. The first car catches up with the slow cyclist and the second car starts drifting in due to an oncoming car. Cue carpunch. Luckily approaching car was a narrow Fiat Panda, so he stopped drifting and got away with it.
He didn't stop and didn't even gesticulate. I probably surprised him a bit.
I'd swapped my 580mm EA70 flats for 750mm Salsa Rustler 3 11deg sweep risers last night, so I was in a good mood to occupy road space.

Fuck that, knock the fucker off. How else are they going to learn?

Was assaulted yesterday evening after calling a driver a selfish prick. Really weird trying to restrain someone and not fight back- all I wanted to do was twat him one. Got police involved and photos of culprit, now waiting on an appointment to give full statement on Friday- hardly seems worth it now.

GF had 2 dangerous close passes from the same bus today which then promptly stopped right in front of her both times. She was a bit shaken up as a colleague of hers was killed by a bus while cycling on the same stretch of road the other week. She recorded the details: reg, company, colour, route, time etc. and phoned the local police and was told that so far as they are concerned it was "just a matter of opinion", my GF "thought it was a dangerous pass, but obviously the driver didn't". I think that they took a record of the call but the officer said that in future it was better to report similar incidents to the offending company rather than to the police.
I understand that because no incident actually occurred, and because there are no witnesses it would be unrealistic to expect the plod to follow this up in detail, and my GF will report the incident to the bus company, but I'm pretty disappointed by the response of the police. Unfortunately I can't find an equivalent of Roadsafe for Thames Valley Police - does anyone know if one exists?

Was riding down here to get to my company car park at the far end on the left and was already by the point where you can see the band of light on the floor in the streetview photo when I heard a skip lorry turn in behind me (shoulder checked to confirm). my legs are a bit knackered as had a heavy week already but was still doing about 16-18mph but preparing to slow and turn into the car park and you can't tell until you're on top of the turn if the gate is open or not so you can't just smash your way off the road.
the skip lorry floored it and sat a foot off my back wheel the entire length of the street even as I held my hand out to indicate i was about to turn and I think if I hadn't moved over to my far left just prior to turning he genuinely would have clipped me as he actually accellerated past as I began to turn and he had barely enough space to pass.
the fucking cunt had come from old st and at the end of the road turned back towards old st. so the only reason he was even there in the first fucking place was he was using it as a rat run to avoid the traffic leading up to the goswell road junction.
coupled with the fact I had 2 separate blowouts yesterday on my front wheel (tyre changed last night but couldn't be sure it wouldn't go again) which immediately required me to come to a stop. if it had gone pop with him behind me I genuinely believe he would have killed me as he had a full skip on the back and zero stopping distance.

Or using it to turn around rather than trying to effect a u-turn on Old St itself.
Still sounds like cunty behaviour.

nah he was coming from old st roundabout when I first saw him as I turned off old st coming from the opp. direction ( i have to do a u-turn as no entry at the gresham st end).

I struggle to get gif timing right using gopro editor for screen grabs, but you get the idea.
Was heading straight over, 2nd exit, car driver looked at me, then accelerated. Reported to 999, and they got back to me to say it's a rental car so basically nothing they can do cos of data protection. They closed the enquiry, to pass it on to a different dept or something.
Have youtube video set to private, until po-po tell me to fuck off, but here's a gif or whatever.

You were on the inside of the roundabout when you were coming off at the next exit?
Driver was a twat but road positioning is key when you don't have indicators
-
• #7691
if he was turning right then the car would have still undertaken him at speed on a roundabout and blocked his ability to exit at the correct junction.
his road positioning is moot. if there's traffic with priority on the roundabout you wait and exit after them.
-
• #7692
No absolutely, I'm not condoning the driving.
-
• #7693
Not sure I buy the data protection argument either, as they can track down drivers for speeding fines / parking tickets well enough!
-
• #7694
nothing they can do cos of data protection.
Utter bollocks.

Clarifications:
The policeman on the phone said that he could not do anything, that he needed to close the enquiry and pass it on to a different department, that would contact me for the footage and take it from there. But he sounded very much like he didn't expect much success to come from it.As for road positioning I think a map helps:
I am coming from the east side of the map
The leftmost lane is actually for first exit
My positioning on the dividing line was to be as wide and left as possible. As per footage, I did not have time to indicate, as I was already taking evasive action
The point I am turning right to avoid the car is the point where I should have been going straight. The car would have hit me to the west of the 'y' of 'Kembrey', had I not stopped and turned on the 'Park'.
There was a car coming in both lanes from the south heading north, so I had positioned myself expecting one of the two to be naughty.

I agree that I could have been more left, but had that been the case, the footage would have shown a collision.

Tricky one indeed. We'd be heading down the rabbit hole of speculation and distances. Regardless of where you were, the driver shouldn't have even considered the maneuver.
Saying that however, that's how I failed my first motorcycle test. Tester told me he didn't fail me because of approach or trajectory, but to highlight that people will see it as an opening and take it, putting me (vulnerable road user) at a massive risk without a moments hesitation and I should dominate the center of the lane towards your exit as soon as possible.
Obviously, something that's way harder to achieve on a bicycle. It was a lesson really well learnt.

Mmm...
Because the GoPro is on the bars and not face-mounted, it is difficult to appreciate that my line of travel was already changed from the moment I saw the speed the car approached the roundabout. You see the car closest to me for a split second, which slows abruptly, the other car that cut me up was accelerating past it.
I saw him from yards away and could see the speed was that of a car which wouldn't stop, possibly couldn't stop, hence staying in the 'wrong' lane.
To be honest, I'd sooner argue the toss, than be in a hospital bed or coffin.

• #7698
Totally with you, hence the speculation comment. Gopros aren't the be all end all to proof.
A really shitty situation to be in for sure, and as far as I'm concerned, even if you were hugging the shit out of the inside of the roundabout, car should never have torn into it like that.
Glad you're in one piece. -

the next time some cunt swerves their car at me I shall report it to the police and explain they were mouthing "dirka dirka mohammed mohammed jihad jihad" just like in Team America. driving a car at pedestrians is an act of terrorism, so we need to see if we can get driving at cyclists reclassified in the same way.

Police called today and asked me to drop in the footage asap, at least it's being taken somewhat seriously.
Also, this:
Terrorists everywhere.
Tweeted Camden MPS and they've ignored me. Also tweeted Sgt Clarke who was the leader of their close pass initiative. He seems to be on the case.
