Chainline efficiency is the reason for single ring - 58t vs 53t means you get basically the same gear with a sprocket 1t bigger with slightly less (single w) lost to the chain.

eTap FD is also bulky as fuck.

Reason he's got a reasonable cassette spread is cos UCI do daft things like have TT courses that aren't completely pan flat.

Today's course is pretty flat, just one, short, climb to contend with.

Is that an 11-28? He'll still have 11-12-13-14-15 straight through for the fast bits.

He might need it for the climb with 7.5 kms to go.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Tight group for the fast bits with the right gears for the climb.

Bit soon for that. There's not a lot of TTing in the Tour this year. Let's wait and see how he is in the mountains before we make Tour judgements.

Of course froome will win the tour, the dauphine is prep for him. He's probably just come down from altitude. He doesn't need to show himself at little races now.
