  • Oh... And your Twitter handle linked from your profile ☺️

  • Okay!

It's still early, and it's all to play or. However, the strong are starting to emerge, pulling out a lead of 100miles on the next group. The first place guy, Ben, I think he'll blow, his sleep pattern must be hurting him, having done a 30h stint. The next 4 are all sleeping consitenty and making faster progress, I'd expect those 4 to start pulling away more, in the next 4 days.
Interestingly the next 4, so 5-9 on the road have bad sleep patterns and are riding slower, they were the top 4 at one point but are suffering a bit. Either they'll catch up on some sleep and regain strength, or start to fade over the next 5 days back into the 2nd group on the road.

I think Mike's record is on the shelf, and those trying to hold a schedule to beat it, will suffer.

Ben's 40h stint!! And 5h sleep. On move again.

  • I can't really follow social media for riders, that's hard work. I've searched the hastag #tabr2017 a few times and theres info under that, so follow that.

The race within the race is yet to emerge, the field hasn't been sorted out yet, it'll take another 3 days before we start getting a few races going, as the leaders emerge from the pack and the 2nd and 3rd groups on the road settle into a race. Then we'll be able to look at them.

  • Now I know I need to add rep to the forum just to give a thumbs up to your post.

  • Even with his issues hippy is well places in the 2nd group, 100 miles back from leaders. He's still very much in the game. When we get to his terrain (flat) expect to see him move up. He's the experience and stamina needed. Plus due to his issues, he's had an easier start and will not have ridden himself into the ground.

See the HH just below LW record.

  • He'll probably catch the front pack on the long descent out of the Rockies.

  • Poor hippy. Sadly I think it's a bit like some Pro race route profiles. A bit exaggerated!

  • He'll probably catch and flatten the front pack on the long descent out of the Rockies.

    Fixed.

  • Hopefully all the issues are behind him and the breweries are offering roadside free samples as he steams through.

    You calling him fat!?

  • breweries are offering roadside free samples

hand-ups, that's an 'merican thing, right?

  • Hippy resting in New Meadows. Randall Rice got there about half an hour before him and Bo Dudley 3 hours before.

The others ahead look to have been stopped for 5 hours or so, so they should be on the move again soon.

  • Hippy resting in New Meadows.

It was probably the 'All American Food' sign that did it.

  • Rather accurate and classy schedule on his round the world ride too, first through a few countries to race the IPWR, and now he was there just in time to send the racers on their way in trans am, before continuing his own ride again.

I just left, was home for 60 hours to launch the trans am, 4,230 miles to Halifax then done

  • Hippy is moving again. He should be able to chase down the 3 ahead of him to move up into 12th.

He's ~40 miles behind Ryszard but he's nearing the end of a long break.

  • If timing works out, might get to heckle hippy from the roadside when he goes through Silverthorne CO just before Hoosier Pass - I'm sure he'll be in a great mood at that point.

  • "Leading" group have all woken up now with Rob English the last to rise by the look of things. They all got about 5/6 hours kip and are now chasing Benjamin who's well into the gnarly looking bit to Lolo, wonder if he'll stop for a sleep there?
Thought Hippy was going to get some down time, he's not slept in about 24 hours now but is pushing on with a lot of uphill to come.

  • It would be good to have a real time #goochwatch and #nippletape update. You may need to run alongside him TDF style. I'm sure it'll be fine.

  • Didn't even notice they're in Montana already. Terrain looks bumpy around there.

Edit: wait, Idaho. That makes more sense.

  • @hippy has been moving up the field over the last day or so. I've been watching his Delta to the leader and it has stayed at about 150 miles.

  • Nicely done!

  • The guy behind Above Category is posting a lot of 'stories' on instagram. https://www.instagram.com/abovecategory/.
You can only view them on the app, not the website.

  • Weird trying to follow this, after IPWR which was really content rich on social media

  • Yeah, Jesse put a hell of a lot of work (and some money) into ipwr, Nathan is a bit more laid back. For Jesse it is partly marketing for his business while, AFAIK, Nathan does it as a hobby.
