There's still a risk that sitting along side and debating with the other "losers" allows May to frame herself as the true leader.
It also opens him up to being rinsed on immigration by UKIP (a key trad. lab. issue).... and everyone else on a number of other issues.
Still, fingers crossed everyone else will attack the Tories in their absence. But it is a risk.
On the flip side, May began the election on Brexit + strong&stable. After being a bit shit on most TV and ducking any tough situations, this does give JC the opportunity to take the strength frame.

It's so good. Tories will be in panic. If he can nail the debate, cracks will start to show and briefing against May will start.
