I'm running 34:16 and 32:18 on my 26" Kona. Works a treat, takes about 10 seconds to change by hand, but I'm using a 9sp chain so it's quite easy to drop it off the front ring. What cranks are you running?
XT M8000 double. Did consider running two chainrings off one extra long chainring bolt with a spacer, but I've already stripped a thread on the integrated chainring nut on these cranks running one ring, so that's probably a really bad idea.
