He was one of the favourites to take the next stage and the yellow jersey, finishing on the Mur de Huy and being just 6 seconds behind leader Cancellara.
And yes, Rio was his only goal.

The latter. He was over an hour and a half down after the Sallanches ITT, where he was second to Froome.
He was out of the GC race after the 5th stage, won by Van Avermaet, where he lost over 20 minutes.

Where in the GC standing was DM in last years tour before he broke his wrist? Or was he just targeting TT's ahead of Rio?
