• I might put the cups upside down so I look a little less serious about it. I needed to replace my notchy old headset and thought this would be funny but it just looks like I'm a cheapskate haha

  • If anyone else is interested in a cheapskate but decent headset, you can just search King Headset on aliexpress to find it

  • Just don't complain when someone copies your masterpiece for all da profitz...

  • Noted! Can't imagine any sort of masterpiece I'm capable of creating though so I'm probably safe from the Chinese

  • Your time to shine will come soon enough darling. jazz hands

  • This is like receiving a reply from a celebrity that you sent fan mail to as a child

  • if anyone's thinking about getting some 'POC' sunnies... these came super fast (ordered on May 12 - arrived yesterday). Build quality seems decent, branding on them is as shown in the pictures.

Edit: Snapped in half whilst putting them on after less than a month's use. Lesson learned, will go and buy something legit instead. Do not recommend.

  • racmmer vs spexcel sizing? im Large in thermal spexcel. medium in rapha. 180cm / 75kg

need couple of cheap and cheerful shirts from racmmer for work I dont mind throwing in the washer every day

  • I have both. Pick the smaller size than usual on Racmmer and your usual for Spexcell. Worked for me.

  • Think we need a new thread; one for actual counterfeit branded stuff, rather than more respectable open mould carbon stuff, and components that are similar to, but don't claim to be, branded products.
TBH I was a bit appalled a few months ago when someone posted that they'd bought some fake Giro branded socks for a couple of quid. Socks FFS...

Of course, hypocrite here; owning one fake Adamo (*plus two genuine ones) and some AliExpress Jawbreakers :-/
    Pointless rant over and breathe.

  • Wouldn't be bad to have a separate thread for wheels and another for clothes to be honest...

There's an awful lot of content in this one.

  • Pointless rant...

Not at all. The distinction is important.

Someone was asking about fake helmets no so long back: so a fake helmet, with fake certification and fake protection.

    Y?

  • I agree, not a good road to go down.
The fake Chris King headset above is closer to the line than , for example, a fake branded fully CNC'd Thomson post, because it's easy to spot due to that laser etching. A few more seconds in the machine, though, and it becomes a full blown fake, which if it gets unknowingly sold on as genuine later down the line, could be dangerous (@PhilDAS I know you'll state it as 'not genuine' if sold on, but the next guy might not. Not trying to have a go :-) ).
I believe the OP intended this as an 'open source' and 'similar to' -type products thread, rather than one for outright fakes, so IMO it's the fake branded stuff that should be posted elsewhere. This would also make it easier for people to find the 'proper' fake stuff, if that's what they want, than trawling, asking, or polluting the water here.

(Self-justification bit - feel free to mock) In general, I don't care what brand is on a product, with the exception of high quality 'track'/statement-y HHSB parts like Zen rings, SG75 cranks, etc... It's the product's function that is most important. I knowingly bought a fake Adamo because I got on really well with the two genuine ones bought new, and the fake was purely a cost saving measure when I wanted one for another build (<£20 vs £120)... And, I got the Jawbreakers after being unable to find another set of cheap glasses that have a high enough frame for decent field of view in a head-down-ish aero-ish position (which they're still not great at; frame still blocks my view :-) ).
Makes me a bit sad when people knowingly buy fake stuff purely because of the fake brand name printed on it, and the fake 'image' they intend to convey.

  • I say just rename this thread 'cool cheap stuff that takes a bit longer to arrive than normal'
    The thread is hardly unwieldy

  • No offence taken :)

  • Anything with someone else's branding on it is fake and can fuck right off IMNSHO.

    Quite.

Like Colnago-badged gas-pipe or a ten dorrah Rolex, people want the kudos with no regard for the performance the genuine article affords.

    Pointless.

Self-defeating too, as anyone who's clued-up enough to be impressed by it (and you), is clued-up enough to know it's snide and that you're a poseur.

    Anyone who isn't, isn't.

"Seriously dude. Like you could afford that: you can't even afford toothpaste [wretch].

  • It's 'a brasive'... A BRASIVE...

  • I'm probably who you're referring to - I bought the Giro branded sock for a couple of quid because I couldn't find any other manufacturer that was making MADNEONORANGESOCKS.

Nothing to do with the name etc - just a bright solid colour to compliment the rest of my kit.

    #FASHUN

  • thanks! went ahead and got me some colourful shirts :-)

  • I assume that I look like a muppet wearing Jawbreakers, but I feel comforted that I'm a muppet who wouldn't actually spend £200 on sunglasses. I'm never going to buy the real thing, and I would be quite happy with the Aliexpress item sans branding.

I also quite like the idea of fake Rolex's, and its also an interesting point as a lot of watches use stock movements which are more (or less) modified in house.

I've bought one legit SMP Composit for £100 (RRP £200), one second hand one which was stripped and I covered with leather for a total cost of £25 and is to all intents and purposes identical. There is an absurd mark-up on some of these items which does not justify either manufacturing skills or research costs IMO and at that point I am less willing to support official items

But I'm not wearing fake things because I think it makes me look cool / other people won't notice.
