  • Cheers @Stroller! Currently riding it single speed but might flip it over to the fixed cog at some point...

  • I'd heartily recommend trying it! But you might have guessed that, being on a fixed gear forum and all...

  • Hopefully this works. This is my 3rd steamroller. I commute about 20 miles round trip on it and love every second of it.

  • @BruiserBike Nice! Did you take the decals off? Are you riding it fixed or single speed?

  • @allanw Thanks! Yes I scratched them off with a credit card. It's fixed

  • I am lusting over this build atm!
    Thanks! Here's an update.

  • What's that crankset @BruiserBike? Some kind of Rotor track variant?

  • Yes the rotor 3d24 track. I was going to go with omniums but these came up on sale and I figured why not try something new.

  • I reckon they look great, not sure about the pedals mind! Bang some SPDs on and you're (drink more water) golden ;)

  • @Stroller I love how they look and feel. I would like to put SPDs on but I can't get the hang of em. I've tried a few times and tipped over every time ha ha ha might try again this summer though

  • what's the current recommended front brake with the correct drop for the steamroller fork?

had a sidewall blow out this morning, aided I think by the fact i get a mm or two of rub from my pads as they can't quite get low enough to sit flush on the rim.

ideally it will be black to match the ninja bike.

  • I reckon most everyone using SPDs or any other clipless foot retention has fallen over at traffic lights or in similar awkward situations at least once whilst getting used to it.

For me it was just a case of sticking with it and you get used to it (much like riding fixed TBH).

  • I have a Miche Long Drop (not sure of exact model) on the stock Steamroller forks. Can check the exact model when I get home. Don't use it any more as have a disc on a Kinesis CX fork. More than happy to sell it on if you wanted (in black too AFAIK).

  • I think that's what I already have on there but with my rim it doesn't quiiiiiite reach. thanks for the offer though.

  • Gotcha. I think TRP do a deeper drop model, up to 57mm I think.

  • I have the tektro R559 on mine and it doesn't rub at all. I'm not sure in numbers how long it is.

  • Do you ever unclip accidentally? That would be my biggest fear if I could manage not to tip over when I slow down ha ha

  • I have the tektro R559 on mine and it doesn't rub at all. I'm not sure in numbers how long it is.

balls just ordered the r539 and can't change the order so now have a pair of r539 and r559 on their way (with double next-day delivery charges :( ) will try both for size and return the loser I guess.

  • They may fit- the pads are all the way up top on mine.

  • I have occasionally popped out when applying a lot of back pressure on the leading foot, i.e. skidding, but generally no. It's not exactly a disaster if you pop out, just sit down, use your brake if you need to and clip back in: simples :)

  • R539 on mine

  • Thats a 28c tyre, haven't dialed in brake drop yet, the pads can come up a touch.

  • R539 will be fine and work with it, Steamroller is designed to work with medium reach brakes which is 47-57mm long, it's what I had on mine.

In retrospect, the Shimano long reach brakes felt a bit better.

  • I think that's what I already have on there...

    Sound like you may have the R540 originally;

  • Grabbed a pair of spds today for cheap. Wish me luck! ha ha ha
