Indoor climbing

  • Thanks. I'm there Wednesday evening for my induction and to see if I fancy it, more regularly.

  • Awesome. I've always wondered about this – making like-for-like replicas of routes.

Obviously the material and friction is wildly different from rock but still cool for perfecting moves.
There's a few rocks in Font that I wish had indoor replicas :)

  • does anyone from on here go to Bermondsey regularly?

  • Yep, twice a week. I'm going tonight as it happens.

  • mon and wed/thurs for me usually. sometimes to the other place before work.
    i'm the one falling off

  • Lately, I've been climbing V5s on overhanging boulder problems and in caves but have been completely ignoring slabs. Realised I may have been a bit single minded for too long when I got stumped by a V3 slab problem on Friday.

Need to mix it up a bit more, especially with a potential Font trip happening soon, which is basically just slab and horrible top-outs.

Tl;dr, don't just climb things that suit your style.

  • What colour is a v5 then?

  • Some of the blues are V5 as well as the pink circuit.

  • Moving to Bristol whilst still working mostly in London and having a baby at the same time mean that I am weak. And heavy. We went with the baby last week and took turns holding/climbing. I'm hoping that might help.

  • Anyone climb at Strong Hold in Tottenham Hale? Probably going to start going there instead of The Arch as it's much nearer my house

  • Didn't even know it existed. That's really local...

BUT... It's £75 for 10 visits... The castle is £50 ish per month and that works out cheaper if you go regularly.

  • If you go further down the pricing page, it shows membership of 50 quid, or 42 quid per month for e-billing!

  • I stand corrected!

    Will pop round this week

  • How many routes are there in comparison to one of the Arch walls? I'm tempted to make the visit north, but if it's tiny I won't bother.

  • It's pretty good number-of-routes-wise. Not compared to both buildings in Bermondsey, but it was also a lot quieter when I was there. Definitely worth a punt I reckon.

  • Crowds > Number of routes.

I went to Vauxwall a while ago and spent most of the time trying to not be a crash mat.

  • Exactly. No point having hundreds of routes if you never get a go.

  • Went to Strong Hold yesterday...

Might have to cancel my Castle membership. That's all I'm sayin'.

  • That good eh? What's the attraction?

  • More variety (excluding caves), WAAAAAY quieter (for now), everything's on the same floor, cheaper and about 5 mins from my flat and it's on my way home from work... The route setting is really great as well.
    And they sell beer.

Lots of familiar faces there too.

Main downside is the lack of ceilings to climb on. That's 70% of what I do at the castle.

  • That looks really promising. Maaan, that area has really moved on from when I used to live there.

  • Yeah, there's loads happening around Tottenham at the moment.

  • Topless dudes lunging at everything. Great, we get it, you're hench, now fuck off elsewhere.
