  • ^ +1 the cauldron stuff is ok when pressed and dried but tbh in my very limited experience it's never worked as well as other brands and generally just turns to scrambled egg consistency however I cook it.
This stuff(and the smoked flavour) is much tougher and borders on meaty in texture. Haven't tried the basil one for burgers yet tho..

  • Love Talifun. This..

  • Ooo not seen that yet. Really fancy that now..

In other news, my new blender arrived. No more lumpy bits is a real joy and kale/green powder is way less gross than I expected.

  • Off to Levenshulme night market in a bit, the Friday evening ones are mainly food based and this time it's all veggie or vegan.

  • @gabes suggested fruit press bars from Aldi. Much like Nakd bars but a whole lot cheaper...would def recommend

  • Me and Simon are hooked on that smoked tofu stuff

  • Went to Aldi today and they're now stocking a pretty decent range of 'superfood' type things along side their already excellent raw bars. They're also selling quinoa for £1.29 for 300g which is less than half the price of Morrisons and makes it reasonably affordable.

    Full range here

    and these are fucking awesome:

  • Did I? Never been to Aldi!

Nakd bars are OK, but 45+ percent sugars. I just bought 32 Huel bars for the highland trail race. Nom.

  • Aldi do a really solid range of cycling friendly food. Pressed fruit ones are super cheap, and also vegan protein bars for 50p ('Hike' ones). It's an absolute god send for whole foods, similar price for nuts etc to my local pay-by-weight wholefoods shop. Also sell proper peanut butter, and cheap flax/linseed, soy milk, almond milk etc. They just need to start selling tofu...

(I realise it sounds like I work for them or something - I don't.)

  • Agreed on Aldi - however mine is always so damn busy. Need to go out my way to get a peaceful shop. Their hummus and falafel are always good if not sold out. Fruit and veg is a bit meh tho

  • I work next door to one so use it a lot for afternoon snacks. Nuts are the same price as crisps so it's a decent option. Last week they had decent avocados for 59p so had a few days of Avocado, pitta and falafel lunches and it was glorious.
Veg is a bit hit and miss, but pretty good for stocking up on leafy greens. Never going to be as cheap as a proper greengrocer though.

  • Well, sounds like I got the wrong vegan...

  • hooked on that smoked tofu stuff

Do you have Viana tofu in the UK? It's my favourite.
Here's a picture of their hazel tofu, but the smoked one is really good as well, better than Taifun in my opinion.

  • I think you can still get this in whole foods... they've got a smoked tofu as well that's not this brand but off the scale good

  • ^^ thanks all on the tofu info^^

Will try some of those. It'll be interesting to see how the falvoured ones go in the burger recipe.

  • Just had my first nosh on a Temple of Seitan chipotle wrap at the market. Omg. Heavenly. Also had half a Big V London burger and some mac and (not) chz because mountain biking is hard work.

  • Hendersons Relish an alternative to Lea n Perrins. I've used this years and it's brilliant
    http://hendersonsrelish.com/

  • I tried drinking a bottle of this at a polo tourney in Sheffield, managed half, it's basically half strength Worcestershire sauce without the fishies.

  • Just why😂
It makes a good Bloody Mary, Lidl are doing a Spanish Week and a litre of Gazpacho is £1.50.

  • I was drunk.

  • I sometimes get it smuggled across the Lancashire/Yorkshire border, it's pretty good but you do need twice as much as worcestershire sauce.

  • I've just been to Full Nelson in deptford, im new to veggie (since january) and my girlriend has been veggie for a couple of years now and eats dairy free too, opted to make everything vegan on (including cocktails) and it was incredible. Expect to wait if its full, but order a drink and you're all good! Not that expensive either, without the drinks the food only came to like £22

  • Yes! Mate is the chef there, glad to hear it was good.

  • This sounds good. Trip to deptford me thinks tomorrow
