I encrypted my phone the other week and it screwed up the sd card so be aware of that and back up before encrypting.
If you adopt the SD card as internal storage it will automatically encrypt it (but it is only readable by that phone unless you root your phone and find the key and then you can, in theory, mount it in linux).

GF lost her phone in Glasgow Sat night - was more concerned with losing the Micro SD card installed, with all her photos on it - luckily it was handed in to the Police by the driver of the taxi she dropped it in and she got it back (Android find my device came to the rescue)
So that has lead me onto investigating SD card encryption methods and apps - can the hive mind help with best option(s)? Ta
